State of the Program ... August 29 Update

Here is an updated list of the coaches that have provided feedback. I’ll get to as many team highlights as I can before I share the team previews in October. The goal is to share all of the previews by the time each state begins practice (according to their state association).

Coaches - if you filled out the form, but do not see your team listed please let me know.

If you missed one of the State of the Program posts … you can find a list and links to all of them in our blog archive. All of those that have been posted thus far are italicized below.

State of the Program ... Mortimer Jordan (AL)

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 6 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 170 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible.

Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews. Lastly, if you want to know whether we have your form … you can find the list of everyone that has submitted a form in the blog archive.

Mortimer Jordan (AL)

Mortimer Jordan finished 11th in a very deep Alabama 5A-6A State Tournament. The Blue Devils return most of their hammers and will look to make a run into the top 10 in 2022. Leading the way is 2021 106 lb. State Champ Brodie Christmas - who claimed his first title as a freshman (meaning he will have many more opportunities to come over the next 3 years). Christmas is joined by State Placer Luke Jasper who finish 4th as well as State Qualifiers Caleb Wright, Lake Gurley, and Jimmy Reed.

Keep an eye on State Qualifiers John Leon and Jacob Horton - both will play an important role if the Blue Devils are going to be able to make a run in 2022.

I think MJ has a good shot at a dual-title. We have to get through Gardendale and Arab of course. It’s a tough task to achieve. We had a young team that caved under the pressure in the playoffs. Our young team is now a year older, and I feel they can make lots of noise this year.
— Coach Pate

WE NEED YOUR HELP … We are in the process of collecting as much information as possible and would love for coaches to reach out and share their information. If you are a coach and would like to provide that information please click the “Team Preview” button below to be sent to a survey.

Wetumpka (AL)

Wetumpka finished 2021 as the Alabama 5A-6A Dual Runners-up to Gardendale and 3rd behind Gardendale and Arab at the Traditional State Tournament. But that was last season and Coach Byrd will need to turn to a new crop of Indians as we enter the 2021-2022 season. The Indians return 18% of their state tournament points … so there are pieces to work with, but they will need some new faces to step up if they are going to break back into the top 10 again in 2022.

State Placer Chad Strickland returns after taking 4th in 2021 and will be counted on to lead the way. He is joined by State Qualifiers Noah Smith, Mason Dickey, and Christian Preston. Each won a match or two at the 2021 state tournament and will look to join Strickland on the podium in 2022. Keep an eye on freshman Zach Crosthwait who will be one of the many new faces that will counted on this season.

Team has looked great in Summer workouts. Excited to see some of our young guys step into starting positions with losing 7 state qualifiers to graduation.
