State of the Program ... Lakewood Ranch (FL)

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 7 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 140 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible. Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews.

Lakewood Ranch (Florida)

Coach Pat Ancil enters his 17th season and Lakewood Ranch looks poised for a really solid 2021-2022 season. The Mustangs return a very solid lineup from top to bottom and should be led by returning State Placer Ranson Coons. Coons finished 6th at 170 in 2021 and will look to climb the podium to the top step in 2022.

But the Mustangs are far from a one-man team … they are solid all the way through. Keep an eye on:

  • Nate Cohen

  • Marcus Cincotta

  • Aiden Zimmerman

  • Cody King

  • and Colorado move-in Gavin Pozzie

The team has a plethora of Juniors and Seniors and will look to make some noise in 3A Region 2.

Look for other teams to be highlighted over the next 7 weeks.

WE NEED YOUR HELP … We are in the process of collecting as much information as possible and would love for coaches to reach out and share their information. If you are a coach and would like to provide that information please click the “Team Preview” button below to be sent to a survey.

Osceola (Florida)

Coach Jim Bird returns for year 29 and the Kowboys have one of the perennial powers in 3A over that time. The Kowboys lose Jaekus Hines and a few other hammers to graduation, but will once again reload and make a run at the 3A title. The group is led by returning State Champs Cooper Haase and Gunner Holland as well as State Runner-up Anderson Heap.

For this group of Kowboys to overtake South Dade or the other 3A powers - they will need the following to step up in 2022. Look for Caleb Negron, George Duncan, and Bryan Gari to make a name for themselves in 2022.

Kealonie Vega and Paris Martinez will lead the way on the girls side as the FHSAA “may” sanction their first-ever girls state tournament in 2022.

Osceola had a great off-season and we look to continue to get better. We have some holes but we expect to develop a few wrestlers so they can be ready for post season. I think we have 5 that are going to be hard to beat, 2-3 that have a chance to qualify and we always have one that will surprise the world almost every year. Our region is going to be crazy so we will have to be ready.

State of the Program ... Wellington (FL)

We are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 7 weeks. Today’s highlight is Wellington High School (Florida). Keep in mind this isn’t the entire team preview for any of these teams … this is just a sample of what will be released in several weeks.

Coach Travis Gray enters his 16th season at the helm and we expect Wellington to be back in the mix of things again in 2022. The Wolverines finished 13th in 3A in 2021 and have a great group ready to come back and push Wellington into the top 10 in 2022.

State Placers Patrick Jones should lead the way, but if the Wolverines are going to climb they will need the following 2021 State Qualifiers to make the podium in Kissimmee.

  • Evan Pena

  • Sam Marvel

  • James Marvel

  • Seth Rhodes

Keep an eye on Cameron Howard to make some noise in 2022.

We have a great core group coming back with a large group of seniors and have high expectations as both a dual team & individually.
