State of the Program ... Clay (FL)

Clay (FL)

Coach Reape is back at the helm of the Clay program and they got back to work in grinding through opponents - much like the Reape teams of old. The Blue Devils took care of business at districts and regionals and finished 10th at the Traditional State Tournament in March. They lose their hammer in State Champ Cole Hoskinson to graduation, but Clay teams are always ready to step in with the next wave wrestlers. That should be the same in 2021-2022.

State Placer Dominic Martin returns after taking 6th at 152 and he is joined by 4 fellow State Qualifiers in Chandler Thomas, Luke Boree, Maverick Rainwater, and Ethan Larsen. Each has the experience necessary to push themselves onto the podium and the team high in the top 10. If Clay is going to push Palm Bay and the top Region 4 teams for a spot in the top 3 they will need wrestlers like Jadon Bell, Kedtric Wilson, and John Johnson to step up and score points. Keep an eye on a trip of freshmen in Jake Bucci, Brady Glavin, and Vonte Burke.

We have 7 returning state qualifiers from last year and a state qualifier from 2 years ago that was out of the preseason last year due to medical reasons. The outlook on the season is high for us as we want to defend our district and region championships from last year. Our seniors are hungry and ready for the culmination of the last 3 years and are looking for championships.

State of the Program ... Hagerty (FL)

Hagerty (FL)

Hagerty finished 8th in 3A, but must replace two State Runners-up in Ethan Lopez and Bertilus Bornelus. Kamdon Harrison returns after taking 3rd at 138 and will join returning State Qualifiers Blake Watts and Ethan Gomez in leading the Huskies in 2021-2022. Keep an eye on David Mejia, Jacob Donovan, Connor Gilliam, Hunter Tate, and Carson Grennier - each won matches in the Region 1 tournament a year ago and each will look to book their ticket to Kissimmee in March.

Several Huskies look ready to make an impact in 2022 including Lochlann Higgins, Clayton Childers, Gavin Nelson and Josh Kreitner (Fr) … this is a team that has the pieces to make some noise, but will need to continue to develop if they are going to make another run at the top 10.

We are a fairly young team, but we have put in some work in the offseason to try to get back to the top of our district and build off of a strong finish at the region and state tournaments from last season.

Mandarin (FL)

The Mustangs return State Placers Jameel Smith and Tony Carter. Smith finished 6th at 132 and Carter was 4th at 182 … both have the ability to make a run at the top step of the podium in 2022. The question is … will Smith and Carter have some teammates ready to join them in Kissimmee in March or not?

Logan Emanuel and Jaelen Simmons return and both won 2 matches at the 3A Region 1 tournament in 2021. Both Emanuel and Simmons will look to breakthrough and punch their ticket in 2022. Bradley Mier and De-Shawn Wise-Minor are two other Mustangs to keep an eye on this coming season. Mandarin doesn’t have the depth to challenge teams straight-up, but they have some horses that can make a run at some individual medals in Kissimmee.

Mandarin had a great off-season with many wrestlers working throughout the spring and summer. We return two state placers and have a few wrestlers who will look to join them in March at the Silver Spurs.
