Oviedo (FL)

Coach Waters takes back over the Oviedo program after being away for the last few years. He has quite a young group (last year’s post-season squad had 4 freshmen and 2 sophomores). State Placer Carl Marcus Patrick has graduated and Coach Waters will look to Seniors Malachi Williams and David Rojo to lead in 2021-22. John Dishman, Zachary Scharf and Williams each placed at districts and Scharf and Williams each won a match at the Region 1 tournament a year ago. They will look to punch their ticket to Kissimmee in 2022. Oviedo might struggle as a team a bit in 2021-2022, but the continued development of Jimmy Chiaradio, Bryson Blanford, Nick Rynearson, and Andres Millan (as well as Scharf and Dishman) should pay dividends in the future.

We are super excited about this upcoming season.

State of the Program ... Port Charlotte (FL)

Port Charlotte (FL)

Port Charlotte is definitely a program on the rise … they move from 2A to 1A in 2021-22 and with the hammers that they return - this is a team that should make some noise this season. Koen Hoffman and Okten Logue both finished on the 2A podium in 2021 and both will be amongst the favorites to claim a 1A title in 2022. But the Pirates are far from being just two hammers … this team has depth.

The Pirates welcome back Nick Sloan, Grant Laballister, Tyler Rodriguez, Derek Pinedo, and Josiah Arroyo. All 5 won multiple matches at the 2A Region 3 tournament in 2021 and each has the ability to punch their ticket to the state tournament in 2022. With 7 wrestlers that have a legit shot to be in Kissimmee and several with a chance to climb high on the podium - the Pirates are poised to have quite a season (top 10 finish anyone?). We won’t get ahead of ourselves because there is a lot of wrestling between now and March, but Coach Crane has this team in position to make a run in 2022.

It’s going to be a fun season for my Pirates this year.

State of the Program ... Timber Creek (FL)

Timber Creek (FL)

Timber Creek is likely to take a small step back with the graduation of State Placer Jayden Tapia, State Qualifier Fernando Dominguez, and a bunch of starters. Losing Tapia and Dominguez is tough, but Balcom, Hanks, McCrimmon, and others really helped push this team to the district title a year ago. The Wolves still have plenty of talent, but they will need some new faces to step up in 2022.

The Wolves are led by returning State Placer Trenton Dominguez as well as Seniors Dennis Proulx and Carlos Arciniegas. Ethan Winters and Peter Nesheiwat are two others that will score points and look to punch their ticket to Kissimmee in 2022. The key for the team to repeat as District Champs is the development of Daniel Pacheco and Gabriel Truax as well as Andres Velez, Jayden Otto, and Landon Bueter. Keep an eye on Senior 106 Jean Vazquez - who has sat behind Dominguez for 3 years as well as the return of Nico Perez.

We lost 7 senior starters. 3 of which were 4 year starters. We will be rebuilding in the lower weights. We have lots of depth from 160 lbs on up, so it will be a battle for those spots. We always expect to compete for District and Conference titles.
