Doral Academy (FL)

Head Coaches: Alexis DeArmas

Staff: Willy DeArmas

Doral Academy continues to build up. What I mean by that is look at the trend … they have progressively gotten better, qualifying more wrestlers for the state tournament through super tough 3A Region 4 over time. All three of their State Qualifiers from a year ago return (and just one - Enrique Sanchez - is a senior). Sanchez and fellow qualifiers Jose Gutierrez and Julian Montero won matches at the 2021 state tournament and will look to punch through in 2022 and climb onto the podium.

Enzo Santoro won 3 matches at the 2021 Region 4 Tournament and will look to take that next step and qualify for Kissimmee. Keep an eye on Alexis Mendizabal and Albert Manzini as well … both will look to take a big step during their Junior year and qualify as well. David DeArmas and Athan Toro will also look to make their presence felt in 2022. On paper it doesn’t look like Doral has a ton of numbers, but the kids they have in the room are tough and ready to make some noise in 21-22.

We are looking build on what we accomplished last year and to continue developing our program to get to the next level.

The Vikings begin the uphill climb in 2A Region 4. Norland return 4 with post-season experience and they should make up the core of the 21-22 squad. Keep an eye on David Capers and Jordan Bailey - both Seniors as well as Junior Inson Guerrier and Sophomore Rahsaan Robinson. Robinson took 2nd in District 15 at 106 and will look to put a few wins together at the region 4 tournament and punch his ticket to Kissimmee. Keep an eye on Christo Pierre and Shanakay Chambers - two seniors that will look to make some noise and book a trip to the state tournament in Kissimmee in March.

Miami Norland Wrestling is a young program that currently houses a strong balance of older student-athletes and younger aspirants. I have high hopes for our team dynamic and the opportunity for success this season.

The Broncos graduated two from the squad in 2021, but return a solid core that looks ready to take the next step in 2022. The squad is led by returning State Qualifier and Senior Riley Girgis. Girgis was a Region Runner-up in 2021 and finished 1-2 at the 2A State Tournament … the goal has to making the podium as he finishes his high school career. Girgis is joined by fellow Senior Aden Thornton. Thornton will look to join Girgis in Kissimmee in March.

The Broncos will rely heavily on a few Juniors, a group of Sophomores, and a few Freshmen in 2021-22. Grady Woodard returns after qualifying for the state tournament a year ago as a freshman and will look to take the next step in 2022. Keep an eye on Dylan Johns, Shane Jourdan, and Thomas Stokes - each had wins at the region tournament and will look to punch their ticket in 2022. Three freshmen - Wyatt Leduc, Jackson Hornback, and Mason Phillips will look to make an impact in their first year.

We have a solid group of guys returning, and a great group of freshman ready to step into the varsity lineup. The guys have really committed to improving this offseason. The goal this year is to improve on our 3rd place district(traditional) finish from last season, and add some state placers to the board.
