By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 7 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 140 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible. Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews.

Colquitt County (Georgia)

The Packers finished 4th at Traditional State and 3rd in the State Duals in 2021 and this year’s version could be even better if they can find a way to replace the top part of their lineup. State Champ Jeremy Paradice and State Placer Ethan Sellers lead the way and will anchor a Packers squad that will be extremely tough to beat in the light and middleweights.

Nathaniel Taylor, Gabriel Freeman and Jesus Grijalva each had very good 2021 state tournament and should be in the mix for a spot high on the podium in 2022. The Packers also add two freshmen in Logan Paradice and Russell Flowers to the mix.

The team lost a lot in upper weights to graduation but we are still returning a good core of guys and have some others that are ready to step up. We are looking to build of our finishes last year at the state tournaments, our goal every year is to win a state title.
— Assistant Coach Kenny Mason

Look for other teams to be highlighted over the next 7 weeks.

Buford (Georgia)

Moving up a class did nothing to hinder Buford’s ability to make a run at another title in 2021. They moved into 6A - in my opinion the deepest class in Georgia - and beat some quality teams to take both the dual and traditional titles. Expect Buford to be in the hunt again in 2022.

Coach Tom Beuglas enters his 29th season and does so with a lineup that is amongst the best in Georgia (regardless of class) as well as the entire Southeast. State Champ Rylan Ibold returns as do State Placers Grayson Santee, Aaron Kirkland, and Tyler Henley. Add in State Qualifiers Kazienko, Pope, Riner, McCullough and Thompson and you have an outstanding squad.

Now add to the mix a group of freshmen that are unbelievable - led by Fargo double All American Drew Gorman. If you don’t know the names Gorman, McArthur, McCloskey, and McCormack now - you will by the end of the season.

We had a great summer and we are looking forward to next season. We return 9 starters and have some outstanding freshman coming in who will make an immediate impact. We have a tough schedule and hopefully will contend for another state title this season.

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 7 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 115 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible. White County (Georgia)

Coach Patrick Lowendick returns for year 11 and has a solid group to build the next group of Warriors. Devin Sullens, 3A 285 lb. State Champ, has graduated, but he wasn’t the only Sullens to claim a title in 2021. Sidney Sullens returns for her senior season and will look to add another girls state title to her trophy case.

The boys return 4 2021 State Qualifiers and each won a match in Macon in 2021 - look for each to be hunting for a spot on the podium in 2022. They include:

  • Caden Autry

  • Isaih Whitlow

  • Kane Lowery

  • JD Trowell

The Warriors have a healthy group of newcomers that should raise some eyebrows in 2021-2022 as well. Keep an eye out for Sebastian Wiley, Mason Autry, Tyler Autry, Davin Lightsey, and Noah Williams as well as Senior Michael Harris.

After losing one of two state champions from last season, we’re looking to reload with young guys and lean on the two returning seniors. JD Trowell and Isiah Whitlow should be in contention for a top 6 finish at state and some of the upcoming 9th graders have tons of upside. Kane Lowery, Ashton Pickett and Jeb Robinson should also contend for state qualification. Sidney Sullens returns for her senior year looking to become a two-time girls champion and four time state finalist.
