State of the Program ... Lovett (GA)

Lovett (GA)

Lovett is loaded and should be in the hunt for the Georgia 2A title in 2022. State Champ Parker Coy and State Runner-up Alex Hyman return and both should be amongst the favorites to claim the top step in 2022. Lovett also returns State Placer Christian Bell and 7 other State Qualifiers. Logan Lutz, Nick Moffett, Garrett Roesell, and MJ Greentree each had multiple wins at the 2021 2A State Tournament and will be hunting a spot on the podium in 2022.

Jake Kennedy beat the 113 lb State Placer from Fannin County in the second round of state but then had to medical FF because of an injury. He is definitely one to watch out for. Also keep an eye on two freshman that will look to make some noise in 2022 - Cael Kusky and Chris Mance will make an immediate impact.

We had a good season last year, 3rd at State Duals, 2nd at Traditional state however we could have an even better year this year. We have some experienced wrestlers and some real studs coming in as freshmen.

State of the Program ... Jefferson (GA)

Jefferson (GA)

Jefferson ended their “redemption tour” with an impressive 260 points, 3 individual State Champions, 6 other State Placers, and the 4A State Title. The Dragons lose some firepower in the graduation of Mason Mingus, Ayers Honiotes, and Tyson Thurmond, but the bulk of their points return and they will look to keep that 4A title home at Jefferson for another season.

The scary thing about Jefferson is that all three of their individual State Champs - Luke Cochran, Chaz McDonald, and Davis Dollar - were Sophomores in 2021 and their 3 freshmen - Hoke Poe-Hogan, Creed Thomas, and Davis Dendy - each finished 2nd. All 6 will be either the favorite or amongst the favorites to win it all in 2022. Add in Commerce State Runner-up Sammy Brown (who was also a freshman a year ago) and this is a team that might have 7 individual State Champions in Macon in 2022 (and all 7 would be eligible to return for another year). Are we looking at the best team in the SE in 2022-2023?

Looking to improve on last years Championship season. We should be as strong or stronger than we were last year.

State of the Program ... Kell (GA)

Kell (GA)

For the first time in many years it looks like Kell will enter the season without a Parlato. Patrick Parlato finished 2nd a year ago (and he followed his older brother who won a state title at Kell). The Longhorns also graduated State Qualifiers Parker Knor and Keith Williams - so the 2021-22 version will look to Micah Zefo to lead the way. Zefo is also a returning State Qualifier and probably Kell’s best shot to make the podium in 2022.

Keep an eye on Josh Barker, Donavan Ruredzo, Chase Kresge, and Turner Dampler as well as others to make an impact in 2021-2022. Kell will also turn to Reagan Masters (Girls runner-up at 122 a year ago) and she, along with Caroline Buffington, will look to help the Girls program break into the top 10 in 2022. Reagan is the first girl to be voted team captain to Kell's wrestling team (men's & women's) … she will lead the Longhorns along with Senior and fellow captain Micah Zefo.

Replacing 7 contributing seniors is a challenge for any program. After a very productive summer, the Longhorns are looking to rebuild under the leadership of Senior, Team Captain and three time GHSA state qualifier Micah Zefo. Junior All 6A Defensive Lineman Josh Barker, will be looking to make noise in Macon at heavyweight after finishing 4th at the 6-AAAAAA Region Tournament behind three state placers (only 3 qualified in 2021). Senior and 2020 Sectional Qualifier, Fernando Hogan will also be looking to make a run in Macon after missing 2021 due to a leg injury.
