Elbert County (GA)

Elbert County lose some serious firepower from their team that finished tied for 4th a year ago. State Champ Jamal Rucker, State Runner-up Tyshawn Hughes, and State Placer Irbin Olmos have all graduated. The Blue Devils will look to returning State Placers Khrystian Anderson, Carter Fleming, and Trez White to carry the load in 2022. All three will look to climb the podium in 2022, but for the Blue Devils to stay in the hunt for a top 3 finish in the team race they will need Josiah Harkins, Javier Rodriguez, and several new faces to step up. Look for Jamaze Hall and Matt Smith to make some noise if the Elbert County is going to be back in the thick of the team race again.

We are going to be young this year. We return several wrestlers that competed a lot last year so we hope they can use that experience for this season. We only return 3 state placers but several guys that competed at state.

Banks County (GA)

Banks County finished tied for 4th (with Elbert County) at the 2A traditional State Tournament a year ago. The Leopards lose a pair of State Runners-up in Evan Clark and Josh Stapleton, but other than that return nearly every other point-getter. This year’s edition of Banks County should be every bit as good as last year. The Leopards have a crowded field in 2A to contend with, but have the horses to make a run at the top step.

State Placers Jacob Voyles, Angel Cruz, and Kellon Walley each finished 3rd in 2021 and each will be hunting the top step in 2022. It isn’t inconceivable that the Leopards bring home three individual state champs when all is said and done. Still this is a very young squad that will need some of their 2021 State Qualifiers to step up if they are going to make a run at a team title. Elijah Mullins and Roman Haynes each won multiple matches at the 2021 state tournament and each will make a run for a spot on the podium. Keep an eye on these 4 sophomores … Jaxon Mitchell, Zak McClellon, Christian Lee, and Mason Dodd … they could be the key to how high the Leopards climb as a team.

We will be very young. The majority of our wrestlers will be Freshman and Sophomores.

State of the Program ... Cass (GA)

Cass (GA)

Cass is one of the best teams in Georgia regardless of class. They gave Woodland all they could handle a year ago and return the core of their lineup from a year ago. They, like everyone, lose some firepower in State Champ Noah Hoffmeier and State Placers Gavin Smith and Adan Urizar. But they return an outstanding group led by State Champ, and Fargo All American, Cole Hunt. Add in State Runners-up Bryce Kresho, Eli Doolittle, and Tyler McKnight as well as State Placer Jake Crapps and this is a team that can compete with anyone.

The key for the Colonels will be Zach McKnight and Parker Dunn … both have the ability to make the podium and if the Colonels put 7 high on the podium they will be tough to beat. Lee Camp, AJ Platt, and Kriecg Roe will all look to make an impact and push the Colonels to the top of the 5A team race.

The expectation for this season is to once again be competing for the state title in 5A. We once again have a very talented team that has been putting in a ton of work over the off season. We have 5 state finalists and a 3rd place finisher returning from last season. Those boys will again be responsible for leading the team and setting the expectations for the young kids who will be joining us this year.
