South Carolina is tough to keep up with. Not much is on trackwrestling - understanding who won which weights and which potential matchups are important to the next dual is not something I know. Also the duals state tournament in South Carolina is a grind - 4 matches in 7 days for the champ and runner-up. Not much time for any analysis.

Class 5A

Top seed Hillcrest visits #6 Clover on Monday. Both teams advanced with relative ease to the Elite 8. #2 Byrnes had a little more work to do in their 1st round win over Ft. Mill (41-31) and will visit #9 Northwestern on Monday.

Lower State Final 4 include #4 River Bluff visiting #8 Wando and #13 Cane Bay visiting #3 Summerville. Summerville had another tight one in their 37-31 win over Lexington, but they keep winning and moving on.

Upper State Final 4 features #2 Eastside visiting #5 Travelers Rest and #6 Lugoff-Elgin taking on #3 Indian Land. Lower State Final 4 has #8 Hartsville vs. #1 May River and #10 Hilton Head visiting #7 North Myrtle Beach. Winners will meet on Wednesday.

Class 3A

Showdown in Powdersville on Monday as #2 West Oak travels to #3 Powdersville for their Elit 8 matchup. #1 Belton Honea-Path visits #6 Union County in the other Upper State matchup. #9 Camden downed Brookland-Cayce to advance and will visit #10 Hanahan in one of the Lower State matchups. #18 Aynor hammered Battery Creek and will visit #4 Gilbert in the last matchup of the Elite 8 round.

Class 1A-2A

Top seed Crescent welcomes #7 Chesnee in their Elite 8 matchup and #11 High Point Academy travels to #3 Ninety-six in the other Upper State matchup. Ninety-six hammered CA Johnson 82-0 in the 1st round. In Lower State - #13 Buford travels to #2 Bamberg-Ehrhardt and #18 Cheraw visit #6 Pelion.

Tons of action around the Palmetto state tomorrow as the 1st Round of the State Duals will take place at various high schools around the state.

5A

Top ranked (by the South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association) Hillcrest downed Rock Hill 54-21 in the only Round of 16 match that has been wrestled thus far. Hillcrest will take on the winner of #6 Clover vs. #16 Dorman in the Elite 8 on February 15th. #2 Byrnes takes on #7 Ft. Mill tomorrow and #17 TL Hanna faces #9 Northwestern in the 2nd quarter of the bracket.

Lower State top quarter has #14 Ashley Ridge vs. #4 River Bluff and #8 Wando vs. #19 St James. The bottom quarter features #13 Cane Bay vs. #15 Socastee and #5 Lexington vs. #3 Summerville.

#9 Dreher visits #5 Travelers Rest tomorrow and #4 South Pointe travels to #2 Eastside in the top quarter of 4A Upper State. #3 Indian Land hosts #12 Greenwood and #6 Lugoff-Elgin hosts #14 Walhalla in the bottom quarter of the Upper State Bracket.

#1 May River advances to host the winner of #8 Hartsville and North Augusta in the top bracket of Lower State. #7 North Myrtle Beach hosts #20 James Island and #19 South Aiken hosts #10 Hilton Head in the bottom quarter of the Lower State Bracket.

3A Upper State features six of the top 7 teams in 3A … #2 West Oak travels to #5 Chester and #7 Broome visits #3 Powdersville in the top half of the Upper State bracket. On the bottom half #16 Blue Ridge visits #6 Union County and #17 Mid-Carolina will visit top ranked Belton-Honea Path.

Lower State has #19 Loris visiting #10 Hanahan and #11 Brookland-Cayce going to #9 Camden on the top side. On the bottom side Lake City travels to a very tough #4 Gilbert and #20 Battery Creek visits #18 Aynor.
