West Oak (SC)

Coach Strobel takes over the West Oak program and inherits a team with some absolute hammers in the lineup. AJ Dickerson is going for his 4th state title, Jeremy Dobbs is coming off a State Runner Up finish and Cael Davis is looking to move up the podium after 3rd place finish in 20-21. Grant Mobley was a state qualifier last year and Josh Collins was a State Runner Up in 2020 … each will be hunting the top spot on the podium in 2022.

West Oak finished 3rd in 2021, but with those that are returning plus some new faces ready to make an impact … West Oak might be the best team in 3A (and could make the argument for being the best in South Carolina). Not only do they return those mentioned above, but also welcome Teague Strobel who moved in from Lexington High School where he was a 5A Runner Up as a Freshman last year. Senior Connor Wilson moved in from Daniel High School where he was a region champ and Carson Williams returns as a starter from last year along with Landon Allen, Jaxton Freeman, Dylan Burgess, Damien Thaxton, Corbon Dickson, Trey Radel and JT Box. This team is lights out from top to bottom and should cause a ton of havoc in the Palmetto State in 2021-22.

This team has put a lot of work in over the summer. With so many wrestlers returning we are looking to push them and challenge them with a tough schedule that will prepare them for the post season.

Young team that will look to some new faces in 2021-2022. The Bulldogs return 4 that will make-up the core of the squad and look to lead this young team this coming season. Ayden Whisler qualified two years ago as a freshman and will look to take that next step and climb onto the podium in 2022.

Rylee Douglas returns for the Bulldogs after only getting in a single match last year due to Covid protocols - he looks ready for a breakout Junior year. Keep an eye on Harrison Brafford an Jojo Barrett as well … both will look to make an impact in 2022.

While we are still young, I expect we will once again be competing for county, region, and state titles focusing on getting better everyday.

The Eagles finished the 2020-21 season 19th in 5A and return two of their 4 State Qualifiers for the 21-22 season. The Eagles lose State Placer Josh Green, but return both Vincent Del Priore and Patrick Brophy. Both will be hunting a spot on the podium in 2022. In a tough season where the SCHSL allowed significantly fewer state qualifiers than they normally would … the Eagles still had 4, but it will be up to some others if they are going to push the high expectations that Coach Dye has for this squad.

Both Boyce Blanks and Matthew Gummere finished 4th at Lower State in 2021 and will be key to Chapin making a run at the dual title or at the traditional state tournament. Look for Seniors Mac Watson, Brock Seal and Jaxon Jalbert as well as sophomore Carmine Keene to make an impact in 2022 as well. How well the supporting cast wrestles will play a big role in how high the Eagles soar in 2022.

We have more seniors this year than Chapin High School Wrestling has ever had before. With our current skill level and all of the experience we have, the expectations for the team is simple. Win a Dual State Championship.
