Brunswick (GA)

The Pirates have been clicking over the last several years and it looks as if Coach Bartolotta and Coach Insalaco have this team in a spot where they simply reload instead of having to rebuild from year to year. They were 5th at the Traditional State Tournament in 2021 and although they graduate some significant firepower (State Placers William Abbott and Jeremiah Dawson as well as others) - they are positioned to be back in the hunt again in 2022.

The Pirates return 5 important Seniors with post-season experience including State Placers Peter McKinney, Leon Charlton, and Staffon Stanley as well as Marcus Norman and Tre Elvine. Add in returning State Placer Blake Ethridge as well as Comari Cone and Anthony Lowe and Brunswick could put as many as 10 on the podium in Macon. 6A is probably the deepest class in Georgia - so the continued development of Nicholas Hickox, Ian Deloney, and others will be huge if they are going to knock off defending Champs Buford. Keep an eye on transfer Sebastian Hutchinson as well as the emergence of incoming freshman Clayton Hicks … both should make some noise in 2022. Another name to keep an eye on is River Creel - the sophomore heavyweight will look to fill some big shoes in the lineup.

Brunswick High in the 4th year under Coach Bartolotta and Coach Insalaco and look to take another step with the program towards the top! Finishing in the top 4 last year in the State Duals and top 5 in Traditional! Brunswick High also will host the 2022 Class 6A State Duals Championships on January 22!

Chestatee (GA)

Coach DeGraff has to be please with where his team sits as we begin conditioning for the 2021-22 season. Chestatee returns nearly all of their pieces from a year ago and that should bode well for a team looking to make that next step. State Qualifier Ely Raines is the only returning State Qualifier … so this team still has quite a ways to go, but they have a ton of wrestlers that competed a year ago and have only gotten better over time. Keep an eye on Kody Garcia and Chris Pruitt as well as Caleb Arrowood … each will look to make some noise in 2022.

The War Eagles have quite a contigent of freshmen that have a chance to come in and make a splash including Kaiden McDonald, Caysen Goss, Johnathan Jones, Austin Evans, Bryan Silguero, Diego Garcia, Gabe Mejia, and Deacon Wilson. But the “newcomer” to keep an eye on is the return of D'Angelo Pruitt and Alexis Guardado-New … they will be important in guiding this yougn squad.

We graduated one starter from last year. With the team coming back and the pieces that we have added, we are hoping to make some noise not only in Region 8AAAA, but the state.
— Coach DeGraff

The women claimed the 2021 State Traditional title and return all the pieces to make another run again in 2022. Isabella Redlinger returns looking to claim the top step again (after claiming the title at 225 in 2021). Catarina Velasquez and Ashley Godinez each finished 2nd in 2021 and will be hunting the top step in 2022 … don’t be surprised to see three War Eagles claim and individual title when all is said and done. But for Chestatee to hold off Alexander, Greenbrier and other they will need points from Andrea Espinoza, Abi Hastings and others. Keep an eye on Abby Plemons and Alexis Smith … The War Eagles have quite the program running and will look to keep that state title home again for another year.

Hoping for a big season from our girls, after coming off a State Championship from last year. We have all the girls from last years team returning, including 3 finalist (1 Champion) and one 5th place finisher. We are also still adding more girls to our roster to help make us an overall stronger team.

State of the Program ... Northwest (TN)

Northwest (TN)

The Vikings might be the best Girls team in the Southeast. The put 4 on the podium in 2021 including 119 lb. State Champ Roseanna Vaughn. Add in Katelynn Hernandez, Brette Spink, and Lily Chantler (all returning State Placers) and Northwest has to be the favorites to claim the title again in 2022. The impressive thing about the Vikings is that they have the depth behind those four to add points at nearly every weight class in their lineup.

Keep an eye on Shyanne Michalski and Karmen Taylor down low, Christina Newsom and Marissa Chavez in the middle of the lineup and Megan Darnell, Arabella Greene, and Shayra Calderon up top. This is a team that is clicking on all cylinders as we enter the 21-22 season.

As for the boys - keep an eye on Cade Steiner and Camden Myers … both will look to get a Viking to the State Tournament in 2022.

I think this 2021-2022 season will be a surprising season. We have an extraordinary amount of talent returning and new talent coming to practice. We have put a lot of time and money into our weight room and I think it will help us in the season. I’m looking forward to the competition.
