Greenwood (SC)

Greenwood will have some new faces in the lineup in 21-22, but still will center around State Runner-up Jacob Smith. Smith was 2nd in 4A at 113 in 2021 to James Levy. He will be amongst the favorites to claim a title in 2022. Greenwood will also look to Seniors Andrew Perkins and Anderius English to help lead the way. Aajia Jones and Dax Seaborn will look to make an impact in 21-22 as will incomign freshman Cason Howle. As Coach Mountz talks about below - individually this team has some real hammers … it will be the pieces that fit in around them that will be the key to how well the team does in 21-22.

This years team will be more of a fresh face team varsity wise but they have more experience on the mat than teams in the past. We are looking for great things from some of these kids individually and hoping they will build on that success throughout the year to have a successful ending as a team, as well.

McDowell (NC)

Coach Davis continues the build at McDowell … qualifying 4 a year ago, taking 5th in 4A West, and returning 9 (that’s how many are eligible to return from who wrestled at regions in 2021) means that McDowell should continue their upward trend. Tobias Finn and Preston Dennison have graduated, but this year’s Senior class is special. Jesse Barrier and Collin Campbell both return after qualifying a year ago and both will be hunting a spot on the podium.

The key to McDowell pushing the 4A West teams for the top spot will be the leadership of fellow Seniors Bruin Lytle and Luke Roberts. Each will look to finish off their senior season by punching their ticket to the big dance. Keep an eye on Bryson Stines, Morgan Repasky, and Josh Punch.

The team is very excited for the upcoming season. This team will have at least 6 seniors on it. All of the seniors on this team are natural leaders and are the hardest working kids in the room. We are returning two state qualifiers from last year and and a few others that I am expecting big things from. I think we are going to surprise some people.

Weaver (AL)

Weaver finished 2021 so close to a state title in 1A-4A. They lost to eventual Champs Cleburne County in the dual state tournament and were 2nd at the Traditional State Tournament to eventual Champs Ashville. Weaver and St James each return the most points (85) from last year’s team … so this is a team that will be in the hunt when it matters. This has to be the first time in many years that Coach Fulmer will enter the season without a Souder in the lineup. Nick graduated a few years ago and his younger brother Cody (last year’s 160 lb. State Champ) has graduated as well.

Weaver is a well-established program and will look to the next group to step up and lead the way. State Champs Joshua Johannson and Devin Anderson both return as does State Placer Anthony Usry. Add in State Qualifiers Lena Johannson and Cameron Thornton and Weaver will be ready to go. The key for Weaver is the continued development of Dalton Fink, Gianluca Torres, Quinn Sani, Le’o Mondragon, and others … Johannson (x2), Usry, Anderson, and others will get their points … will Weaver get one (or more) of the others in their lineup to make an impact and push the team to the top?

We have a great group of kids in our program. We will have some inexperience in some weights but we have some gritty kids that will show a lot of fight as they grow throughout the season. Our goal is to peak when it matters as a team and as individuals.
