Russell County graduates State Runner-up Avery Boyette, but returns a bevy of talent with post-season experience. Owen Elledge is the lone returning state qualifier and he will look to take the next step and climb onto the podium in 2024. He is joined in the middle of the RC lineup by Julian Anthony, Isiah Kinsey, and Mario Aguirre. The quartet should make-up the strength of the Russell County lineup. That said, RC also has returners with post-season experience at the bottom and top of the lineup as well. Ryan Forvour, Ah’Mir Bracey, and Gary Hollum each wrestled in the South Sectional Tournament a year ago and all three will look to punch their ticket in 2024. Brandon Gaskins will be called on to lead the top of the lineup. There will be a ton of competition in the room which should prepare those that end up as starters to make a push for making the state tournament this season. - SEWrestle

Corey Crenshaw, Jack Grogan, Aaron Campbell, Bryan Olivares, and Ezekiel Theodoris return after qualifying for sections a year ago. This team has the potential to have 5 or 6 State Qualifiers … we will see how they progress this season and how close potential matches reality when 2024 rolls around. A few other names to keep an eye on are Rah’ja Wisdom who could slot in up top, Tyson Higginbotham and Parker Landis who could join Maven-Winchester in helping solidify the top of the lineup. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - RS Central (NC)

Coaching Staff:

Rich Cox (24 years--22 at R-S Central)

  • Ramon Rodriguez

  • Justin Snethen

2023 Recap:

  • Finished 2nd at the 2A Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Hunter Feagan - SQ at 126

  • Caleb Cox - 2nd at 138

  • Sam Gosnell - 5th at 106

  • Gunner Horton - 5th at 132

Graduated:

  • Sumter Horton - State Champion at 113

  • Richard Post - 3rd at 170

  • Brayden Helms - SQ at 152

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • No Roster Provided

Didn’t get a roster from Coach Cox … so this will be more theoretical based on the possible returners. RS Central finished 2nd at last year’s Traditional State Tournament, and, if they return their hammers from a year ago, should be back in the hunt again this year. State Champ Sumter Horton, State Placer Richard Post, and State Qualifier Brayden Helms have graduated, but RS Central has an opportunity to return a core that could propel them to the 2A title. Caleb Cox was 2nd, Sam Gosnell 5th, and Gunner Horton 5th in 2023 … if all 3 can climb to the top step and if Hunter Feagan, who was a 2023 qualifier, can make the podium … this team will be tough to stop. Two others that could play an important role are Alex Lopez and Hayden Snethen, both of whom won matches at the West Region and nearly punched their ticket last year. Keep an eye on Eli Warren as well as freshman Conrad Sherburne. - SEWrestle
