Teams talk about reloading and not rebuilding, but Gibson is one of the few schools that actually reloads. Coach Walker has this program humming and 2023-2024 should be no different. Few programs can graduate a State Champ, 3 State Placers, and a State Qualifier and still return as one of the favorites to win a title. But the best thing about this program is the mindset in the Gibson room … nothing is given - everything is earned. They know 2A teams across the state are looking to knock them from the top spot so the mentality of the next group has to be … step up and make their own noise. Maldonado and Fretwell are two of the best in the SE and the country … so you know what you get with them in the lineup. Brownlow, Messner, Tedesco, and Lowe will be called on to step up in a big way - both at the traditional state tournament and in the duals. Gibson welcomes State Placer Austin Chung into the room and he should fit into the lineup just below Maldonado. Whether Gibson claims another title or not might come down to names like Jones, Arellano, Tyler White, Brayden Kahelin, Robert DeJesus, Gabriel Samano, and Jerry Ware. Keep an eye on freshman Ayden Gruver as well to make some noise in 2024. - SEWrestle

Cary finished 9th a year ago and after settling at 4 qualifiers each year from 2020 to 2022, they picked it back up to 7 last year. But with the graduation of 4 hammers - Coach Tutterrow will be able to assess whether the depth is there or not in 2023-2024. Beltowski, Schweitzer, and Barroso-Joslin each qualified last year and each will be hunting the podium in 2024. But how high the Imps climb in 2024 will come down to how well the rest of the lineup wrestles this season. Andrew Metters and Nick Grena each wrestled at last year’s mideast region and will look to punch their ticket in 2024. Keep an eye on senior Jon Hernandez-Cruz who will look to make some noise down low after sitting behind Ramos last year. - SEWrestle

Really good squad that looks to keep getting better and better. Union County has developed into a power in Georgia 2A and has their sights set on taking home a trophy in 2024. The boast a deep room with more than 30 wrestlers that are looking to establish themselves in the starting lineup. Union has all four 3rd place finishers coming back (Clouse, Legatt, Heredia, and Foot), plus a state placer from the year before (Rotko). But the thing that makes this team dangerous in 2023-2024 is that they add several freshman hammers including Eli Flowers, Landon Bell, Kevin Kilpatrick, and Paxon Legatt. UC also retuenrs section qualifiers Riley Mortenson and Jackson Arthur. From top to bottom Union County should be tough especially if the freshmen coming in and can establish themselves and make some noise come January and February. - SEWrestle
