2023 Recap:

  • First year of the “official” state tournament in Alabama

Individuals:

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 114 Juliana Eldridge

  • 120 Nellie Millergren

Wetumpka has two on which to build the foundation for a solid women’s program. Although this is the first official year in Alabama, both of these young women competed a year ago. Juliana Eldridge is one of the top freshmen in Alabama and the entire southeast and will look to replicate her run to the top step in 2024. Nellie Millergren also competed in the post-season last year and just missed making the podium at 120. Excited to see what Coach Highland can build with these two leading the way. - SEWrestle

As we’ve said in many other state of the programs for women in both Alabama and North Carolina … although this is the first official season - this team has been competing at a high level for years. As a result, they enter as the favorites (Daphne is who we picked) to claim the team title. Coach Jefcoat has this team focused and ready with a mix of veteran leadership and some outstanding new faces. Alanah Girard, Kalyse Hill, Mackenzie Nguyen, Kimber Alford and Jenna MacDonald all have a ton of experience and will be called on to lead the way. This group has been together for quite some time and have been exceptionally successful up until now … no reason they won’t carry that into 2023-2024. Those 5 are the solid foundation on which this team is built. Daphne has added senior Emily Smith from Nevada who will be a surprise to many in the state. She has competed all over and will make some noise for Daphne in 2024. Others to keep an eye on include Addison Hollis, Aaliyah Miller, Sophia Chirchop, Taliah Wade, and Riley Jefcoast. No team in the state has the depth of Daphne (few in the southeast can match their depth as well). But nothing is given and they will need to put it all together if they are going to claim the first girls team title. - SEWrestle

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • No Roster Provided

Didn’t get a roster from Coach Fulmer, but we can assume most (if not all) of the State Placers and State Qualifiers from a year ago will return. Weaver does lose State Champ Joshua Johannson, State Runner-up Anthony Usry, and State Qualifier Hayden Ransom and if I were to guess I’d expect the strength of this squad to be down low and through the middle of the lineup. Dalton Fink, Caden Thorton, and Dashawn Kirby Barnes all made the podium last year and each will be hunting the top step this year. This is still a young squad made up mostly of sophomore and juniors … if they can defend their traditional title this year then lookout for the future. Lately, Weaver has not been able to put it altogether for a run at duals … will this be the season that they make it happen? - SEWrestle
