Final: Things got a little testy in the finals with Swiderski and Nini trading shoves and words and then at the end of the match - Swiderski said something to Lake Highland Prep Coach Palazzo. I don’t know what precipitated the “extra”, but it got a bit heated. Besides the penalty point Swiderski got in the 2nd all of the scoring was in the 3rd … and came down to a takedown by Swiderski at the end of the match - 4-2 win.

Top side: Swiderski had a tech, a fall, and then a very solid 14-4 win over Nathan Aguilar of California. Swiderski then downed Nini’s teammate Eligh Rivera by fall in the quarters to put him in the semis on Sunday morning. Rivera had an outstanding 5-3 SV1 win over NC’s James Joplin to get to the quarters. 5 seed Dy`Vaire VanDyke of Ohio had a fall and an 8-4 win before getting a tough 4-3 win over fellow Ohioan Pablo Castro. South Carolina’s Dylan Layton was superb in the bottom quarter of the top side … getting 2 falls before beating 4 seed David McClelland 7-2 to setup a quarter with Van Dyke. Van Dyke had two takedowns and downed Layton 5-3 to advance opposite Swiderski. Swiderski beat Van Dyke 5-3 to advance to the finals.

Bottom side: Nini was almost certainly “under-seeded” … he had 6-0 and 7-1 wins before getting 3 seed Hunter Mason of Tennessee in the quarters. Nini won a wild one vs. Mason 9-7 to advance to the semis. Florida’s Sebastian Melguizo was impressive from the 7 seed … getting 2 falls before downing 2 seed Kyron Butler 6-5 in the quarters. In an all-Florida semi - Nini downed Melguizo 3-1 in sudden victory to book his spot in the finals.

SE highlights (not mentioned above):

GA’s Colton Bishop lost to Aguilar in the first round showed his mettle winning 4 in a row to get within a round of the podium … losing to Rivera 9-6.

Layton took his loss to Van Dyke in the quarters and turned it on in the consis … beating Bashor 4-0, Rivera 2-0, Melguizo 9-6, and avenging his loss to Van Dyke 3-1 to take 3rd. Super impressive tough wins for Layton.

James Joplin, like Bishop above, rebounded from his loss (which wasn’t in the first round) to get a win over Cowen 5-1 to be within one match of the podium … only to fall to Hunter Mason 13-6. Mason, in turn, beat Butler 4-3 TB1, lost to Van Dyke 6-4, and then beat Melguizo 13-11 to take 5th.
