Final: Scott vs. Crook went back and forth in the finals. Both were challenged en route to the finals (and we will cover that below), but the finals was in doubt until the 3rd period. Scott leading 4-3 in the 3rd hit the takedown of the match with about a minute to go … off a solid shot by Crook. Scott parlayed that into a nearfall and shut the door on the win.

Top side: Crook, the 4 seed, had 2 falls before earning an 11-2 decision over of Nathan Jerore of Michigan. That setup a showdown with top seed (and #2 in the country) Caden McCrary. McCrary cruised to the semis and was in control of each match. Crook’s win over McCrary shows a fall at the 8 minute mark, but it really came down to a ride-out (I believe - lots of matches going on) that sent him to the finals. Important match on the top side … NC’s Zack Kariagas beat 5 seed Hayden Zinkin of CA 4-3 in the first round.

Bottom side: Scott cruised with 2 majors, a 10-5 decision before being pushed by FL’s Myles Griffin in the quarters. Scott escaped with a 3-2 decision, but it was far from easy. The 2 seed - Jayden Gomez of Cali was very impressive in the 4 matches leading up to his match with Scott … including a solid 11-6 win over NC’s Jeremiah Price in the quarters (Price beat Florida Runner-up Adrian Neco-Rodriguez in the previous round). Scott downed Gomez in overtime to punch his ticket to the finals 3-1 SV1.

SE highlights (not mentioned above):

Mingus, Neco-Rodrigez, Cordell White, Baltutis, Caban and Garrett Wood all got a win here and there on the consis but were eliminated fairly quickly. Neco beat his teammate White 5-4, Caban beat Wood 4-2.

Chase Gillis had a nice 8-5 win over Preston Walls on the top side, but had to MFF to McCrary and didn’t compete again. With Gillis medically forfeiting out and Honiotes, Karagias, Walls, etc. losing - that left just Price and Griffin on the bottom side hunting for a spot on the podium.

Gabriel Schumm of Cali ended Price’s run with a 5-3 decision before losing to Griffin in the next match (Price finished one match away from the podium). Caden McCrary bounced back from his loss to Crook to beat Griffin 3-2 and then take a medical forfeit for 3rd.
