OSWrestle drops Dec 10 Rankings

Brant Parsons of the Orlando Sentinel is one of the people that ranks wrestlers in the state of Florida.

He ranks the top 20 in each weight in each classification. Because it is behind a paywall (which is very reasonably priced) I will not post his complete rankings here. I am a huge supporter of those that invest their time and effort into promoting the sport and am happy to say that I have a membership to the Orlando Sentinel (when I signed up it was just $1 a month for the first 6 months).

Interested in the rankings? You can find each at the links below. But here are the #1’s for each weight:

OSWrestle’s 3A Rankings

Things I noticed in 3A:

  • Probably not surprisingly - the #1’s are not evenly distributed across the 4 regions

    • Region 4 has 6 #1’s

    • Region 2 has 5

    • Region 1 has 2 and Region 3 has 1

  • Interestingly though the # of top 4’s is more much even amongst the regions

    • Region 4 has the most top 4’s with 18

    • Region 2 has 16

    • Region has 14

    • Region 3 has 8

  • No weight class has all 4 of the top 4’s, but 2 weights are dominated by a single region …

    • Region 2 has #2, #3, and #4 at 120

    • Region 1 has #2, #3, and #4 at 145

Things that stood out in 2A:

  • #1’s were not evenly distributed:

    • Region 2 leads the way in terms of #1’s - they have 8 of the 14

    • Region 3 is next with 4

    • Region 1 and Region 4 have just 1 each (McGill and Marshall)

  • Neither were the overall # of top 4:

    • Region 3 had the most with 22

    • Region 2 had 21

    • Region 4 had 7 and Region 1 had 6

  • No weight class had the top 4 from one region, but 3 weights had 3 from a single region:

    • Region 3 had #2, #3, and #4 at 106

    • Region 2 had #1, #2, and #4 at 113

    • Region 2 had #1, #2, and #3 at 145

A couple of things that stood out in 1A:

  • The #1’s were fairly evenly distributed over the 4 Regions

    • Region 1 (2)

    • Region 2 (3)

    • Region 3 (3)

    • Region 4 (5)

  • It changes a bit when you get to the top 4 for each weight. Assuming Brant is accurate in his rankings then I think you might conclude that Region 4 has the most depth …

    • Of the 56 spots (4 spots times 14 weights) Region 4 has 24 of those. 8 Region 4 wrestlers are ranked #2, 6 are ranked #3, and 5 are ranked #4.

    • That leaves 32 spots for the other 3 Regions …

      • Region 2 has the most with 14

      • Region 1 is next with 10 and

      • Region 3 has 8

  • No weight class has 4 wrestlers from the same region in the top 4 spots, but 2 weight classes have 3 of the top 4

    • Region 4 has 195’s #1, #3, and #4 ranked wrestlers

    • Region 4 has 285’s #2, #3, and #4 ranked wrestlers
