Weekend Recap Jan 8-9

Charlotte (FL) takes the Cradle Cancer Title

Charlotte claimed 4 individual titles and outdistanced runner-up Ft Pierce Central by 49 points. The Fighting Tarpons did this without their 4x State Champ Lucas Willis who wasn’t in the lineup this weekend. JT Apicella, Matthew Weiner, and Riley Orr each claimed titles for Ft Pierce Central who finished 17.5 points ahead of 3A power Osceola.

Buford (GA) takes the Archer Invitational title

Buford looked in post-season form as they easily outdistanced runner-up Lovett, Mountain View, Brookwood, and Wesleyan for the Archer title this weekend. Rylan Ibold (106), Tyler Henley (126), Grayson Santee (152), and Talen Thompson claimed titles for the Wolves. Lovett’s Parker Coy came up big in his finals match vs. Nick Cambria - taking the 132 lb. title with a 3-2 decision. Al Coy (138) and Wells Kamerschen (220) made it 3 individual titles for Lovett.

Christian Brothers (TN) are the 2020 Fandetti Richardson Brawl Champs

Christian Brothers held off Bradley Central, Pigeon Forge, and Dobyns Bennett to claim the 2020 Fandetti Title. Aidan Bowers (160) and Theo Sewell (195) each claimed titles for Christian Brothers. Bowers 10-7 win over Tre Morrisette was just one of several outstanding finals. Lakeway Christian’s Brayden Ivy downed Christian Brothers’ Dayne Dalrymple 11-1 at 138. Sam Shires beat Brennan Watkins 11-2 at 132, Garrett Foreman downed Braxton Mann 13-6 at 145, and Caleb Wolfe beat Jonathan Morton 7-4 at 220.

Rossview Girls flex their muscle at the Fandetti Richardson brawl

Rossview crowned 3 individual Champs as they held off a strong challenge from Clarksville to claim the team title. Clarksville had 4 individual champs, but couldn’t make up the points at some of the other weights. Heritage, Independence, Greeneville, and Gibbs each took home an individual title.

Buchholz (FL) claims the 30th ron peters tournament of champions title

Buchholz claimed 4 individual titles and held off Timber Creek and Hagerty for the TOC title. Cavarius Liddie (113), Venumadhava Mirel (126), Kason Nichols (160), and Jason Martin (195) led Buchholz to the title and the Bobcats look ready for the Dual State Tournament coming up this week. Timber Creek got titles from Trenton Dominguez (106) and Jayden Tapia (132) and Hagerty was led by Kamdon Harrison (140), Ethan Lopez (182), and Bertilus Bornelus (285).

Camden County (GA) wins the Yulee joe bees battle of the border title

Dahlgren, Santos, Clark, Dozier, Gaston, and Yancey each claim titles for Camden County. Ashton Ricks claims the only individual title for Yulee as they finish 117 points back of the defending Georgia 7A State Champs. Columbia (FL) was 3rd with Hernando (FL) 4th.

Wilson Central (TN) flexed their muscle and claimed the yellow jacket invitational title

Wilson Central outdistanced Cleveland by 76.5 points and Summit by 77 points to claim the 2020 Yellow Jacket Invitational Title. Hunter Borders (120), Cole Fort (145), and Brady Jarvis (170) led the way for Wilson Central. The key to Wilson Central’s success though was that 7 wrestlers finished 2nd including a narrow 1-0 loss for Noah Todd to Ashton Davis of Cleveland at 220. Cleveland was tough down low as Logan Fowler (106), Charles Randall (126), Jackson Bradford (132), and Trae McDaniel (138) each claimed titles (to go along with Ashton Davis’s win at 220), but they couldn’t make up for the loss of 3 weight classes.

fleming island (FL) holds off brunswick (GA) for the keystone memorial title

Riley Holton, Xavier Logan, and Gavin Smith each claimed titles and 4 others finished 2nd as Fleming Island held off Brunswick for the team title. William Abbott was the only Pirate (Brunswick) to claim a title - 3 others finished 2nd. Colquitt County (GA) brought just 6, but 3 claimed titles (Taylor, Sellers, and Paradice) and the team finished 5th overall behind Fletcher and Oakleaf.

Social cirlce (GA) crowns 5 champs at locust grove

Conner Castillo (113), Lance Thacker (126), Jacob Bergman (145), Will Hames (152), and Jaxon Ethridge (170) led the way as Social Circle beat runner-up Rockmart by 56.5 points to claim the Locust Grove team title. Rockmart easily outdistanced host Locust Grove, Pike County, and Troup to take 2nd.

Somerset (FL) dominates and crowns 8 individual champs

Somerset dominated the 10th Annual Somerset Scramble over Mater Lakes, Port Charlotte, and 5 others. The Panthers crowned 8 individual champs and outdistanced Mater Lakes by 61 points. Mater Lakes crowned 3 champs, Key West had 1, and Coral Springs Charter had 1.

Jesuit (FL) downs Ft Myers for the Tiger Duals title

Tampa Jesuit beat Palmetto, Mariner, and Island Coast in Pool A and Ft Myers took Pool B over Pinellas Park, Braden River, Sarasota, and Gaither. Jesuit downed Ft Myers 51-24 to take home the team title as they prepare for the State Dual Tournament this week. Braden River was 3rd with a 41-36 win over host Palmetto.

Lee County (GA) are the 2021 Sweet onion champs

Lee County crowned 4 Champs as they held off West Laurens for the team title. Alex Tabb, Drake McMinn, Riley Brewer, and David Lowe led the way for the Trojans. West Laurens countered with 3 Champs and were particularly strong in the upperweights. Vidalia’s Thomas Godbee claimed the 195 lb. title and won his 200th career match as Vidalia finished 3rd.

Beech (TN) downs Cabot (AR) 43-36 to claim the Dragon Duals title

Episcopal (FL) claims the Marine Corps Challenge over Robert E Lee and Englewood

Episcopal crowns 3 individual champs and 4 runners-up as the Eagles easily outdistance runner-up Robert E Lee.

Lemon Bay (FL) holds off Oasis Charter by 4 to claim the SFCA Scramble title

Lemon Bay crowned 2 individual champs (Austin Werden at 152 and Chase Alden at 170) as they held off Oasis for the team title. Ida Baker’s Angel Alverio was dominant at 220 - picking up 4 falls and an injury default to lead all wrestlers in team points.

David Crockett (TN) claims the THS Round Robin title over Morristown East

CFWA finished 7th, Combat (NC) was 9th, and Darkhorse (SC) was 21st in the National Division Duals. A pair of South Carolina teams (Xtreme) compete in the American Duals Division with Innovate and RAW (both out of NC). There were some notable individuals:

  • Zeno Moore (Combat) was 8-0 at 98.

  • Ethan Rivera (CFWA) went 8-0 at 106 including an outstanding 1-0 win over Justin Gates (MI).

  • Jax Forrest (RAW) was 8-0 at 106.

  • Cam Stinson (Darkhorse) was 7-1 at 106 with his only loss coming to fellow NC hammer Jax Forrest.

  • Matt Rowland (Combat) was 7-1 at 113 with his only loss coming to Isaiah Medina 8-6.

  • Brayden Adams (RAW) was 7-0 at 113

  • James Joplin (Combat) was 8-0 at 126 with wins over Rivera (CFWA) and Baysingar.

  • Danny Nini (CFWA) was 8-0 at 132 including a 3-0 win over Dylan Gilcher (MI).

  • Jake Keeling (Xtreme) was 7-0 at 132.

  • Eli Murray (Combat White) was 8-0 at 138.

  • Rayshawn Springs (Xtreme) was 7-0 at 152.

  • Joe Sealey (Combat) was 8-0 at 152 including wins over Alex Poore, Cooper Pontelandofo and Myles Griffin.

  • Holden Cypher (RAW) was 8-0 at 195

  • Carson Floyd (Combat) was 7-1 at 220 with an 8-3 win over Dedric Marshall of Florida.

  • Jamier Freire (Combat) was 7-1 at 285
