Alabama (all times central)
Exciting final that could’ve gone a number of different ways. Flurry started things off for Vestavia with a tough 2-0 win over Thomas Giere at 113. Dempsey and Jones then got Thompson on the board with a major and regular decision (7-3). Vestavia’s Christopher Hays continued his hot streak and got an important win for Vestavia over Yanni Vines to narrow the lead to 7-6 after 4 matches. Wilson Kennedy started the ball rolling for Thompson as he got a fall at 138 and Latona followed it up with a major decision of Leighton Reese to give Thompson a 17-6 lead after 6 matches. Harris Mitchell kept Vestavia within striking range with a 20-5 tech fall of Paxton Miller at 152 to narrow the lead once again (17-11 at the halfway point).
Thompson took control of the dual starting at 160 with a huge fall by Will Garrett over Jack Lamey. Will Miller and Carson Freeman pushed Thompson to the brink of the title with a decision and a major - Thompson led 30-11 with just 5 matches remaining. Thompson’s Jeremiah Coney put the exclamation on the win with a narrow 4-2 win at 195. Bryce Littleton and Jack McMurry both got falls for Vestavia at 220 and 285 and Mac Chandler had an outstanding win over Kiowa Vines at 106, but it was too little too late for the Rebels. Thompson 33, Vestavia 25.
The dual couldn’t have started any better for Gardendale (or any worse for Wetumpka). Keenan Wyatt, Carson Kim, and Derrick Orvik took it to Wetumpka right out of the gate with 3 1st period falls. From that point forward the teams were pretty even with Wetumpka winning 6 matches and Gardendale winning 5 (and just one fall for Gardendale). But Wetumpka got behind and couldn’t close the gap. Mason Blackwell got Wetumpka on the board with a close 5-4 decision of Kennedy Wyatt, but Matt Franks stopped that momentum with an important 4-2 win over Wetumpka’s Devin Palmer at 195. Wetumpka won close matches at 220 and 285 to narrow the Gardendale lead to 21-9, but they wouldn’t get any closer. Jackson Blankenship won 4-1 over Roman McWilliams at 106 and Alex Webb downed Chad Strickland 15-7 at 113 to push the Gardendale lead to 28-9.
Wetumpka’s Noah Smith got up by 5 (or 6) on Daishun Powe, but saw his lead shrink away and held on for a close 7-6 win at 120. Isaiah Powe shut the door on any notion of a comeback with a fall of Jay Nowden at 126. Brody Scoggins downed Mason Dickey to push Gardendale up 38-12 heading into the final two matches. Wetumpka’s Kyler Adams downed Melton Powe 2-0 in what might have been a state final preview at 138 and Xander McWilliams finished the night with a 9-0 major of Luis Sanchez at 145. Gardendale claims their second consecutive title wit ha 38-19 win.
This was a wild one. Ian McGowan got Cleburne Coutny on the board first with a fall at 126 and Nick Spears of Ashville answered to make it 6-6. Cleburne County got an important fall at 138 when Brennan Butler pinned William Simpson to put the Tigers up 12-6. Then Ashville went on a roll. They had pins at 145, 152, 160, and 170 to push their lead to 30-12 and it looked like things might get away from Cleburne County. Luke Harris of Ashville added 4 points with a 17-5 major over Gavin Wright at 182 and the lead grew to 34-12. Zachary Salter stopped the Ashville roll at 195 with a 14-4 major decision and the tide began to change when Russell Clanton pinned Jacob Ebner at 220. Eli Brown’s 3-2 win over Morgan Wilson really put Cleburne in control (not in terms of the score, but certainly with the momentum). Heading into the last 3 matches Ashville still led 34-25, but Cleburne was on a roll. Austen Mayfield and Shamar Heard each got 1st period falls at 106 and 113 to put Cleburne in the lead 37-34. Anthony Champion put an exclamation point in the comeback with a 3rd period fall of Nick Williamson as Cleburne took home the 1A-4A title with a 43-34 win.
Florida (All Times Eastern)

An outstanding dual. Clay jumped out to a 14-0 lead on majors from Gunner Ivey and Luke Boree an a fall from Chandler Thomas at 132. Wakulla got on the board with an important 5-4 win by Hayden Reeves at 145 to cut the lead to 14-3. Clay then took control of the match on 2 falls by Dominic Martin and Cale Hoskinson to lead 26-3 after 6 matches. Wakulla’s Cole Baggett got a fall at 170 and began the charge back for the War Eagles - narrowing the lead to 26-21 after falls from Osteen and Edenfield. Clay’s Garrett Tyre put 6 on the board and 220 and Wakulla’s Jayven Hearns answered at 285 … leaving us 32-27 with 3 matches remaining. Wakulla’s Julian Harvey got a quick fall at 106 to put Wakulla up 33-32 for the first time in the dual. Maverick Rainwater came up big as he downed Hernandez 8-1 at 113 to put Clay back in the lead 35-33. But the lead wouldn’t hold as Raymond Hatchman clinched a Wakulla win with a 5-3 decision over Dalton Huckelberry at 120. Wakulla advances 36-35.
Hernando vs. Palm Bay
Palm Bay jumped on top of Hernando and never looked back. The Pirates put up 5 falls from 126-152 and led 30-0 heading into some important matches for Hernando. Jack Dinberg and Cam Komat each added decisions (Komat’s was a major) and Palm Bay rolled to a 61-12 win.
Anclote vs. Lemon Bay
Lemon Bay rolled to an easy win over Anclote and showed they are here to make a run at the top of the podium. The Manta Rays put up 6 consecutive falls and then got a forfeit at 182 to go up 42-0. They would end up losing just one match - a decision loss at heavyweight as they cruised to a 78-3 win.
Cardinal Gibbons vs. Somerset
Somerset did what they needed to do an held Gibbons in check to get the W. The two teams split matches to begin the dual and than Cabral got a forfeit to put Gibbons up 9-3. Somerset set answered with their hammers - Gillis beat Limperis and Diaz and Estevez each got falls to put Somerset up 18-9. Kotchesnky then won a wild one vs. Estrada to give Gibbons a chance and cut the lead to 18-12. Concepcion pinned Tauriello at 182, but it was Oyeneye’s 3-2 win over Cooper that pushed Somerset into the lead for good (27-12). Falls by Diaz, Estevez, Concepcion, and Fretwell were huge and too much for Gibbons to overcome - losing 40-21.
2A: Elite 8 (all matches began at 126)
Pace vs. New Smyrna Beach
Jamie Bruner and Jace Engberg got NSB off to the start they were looking for with a 9-6 decision and a 16-0 tech fall. Cam Friend got Pace on the board with an 11-5 decision of Justis Chandler at 138. Michael Shannon got 4 more for NSB with a major of Atticus Waters before the two teams split falls at 152 and 160. NSB led 18-9 after 6 matches. Brody Andrews and Aidan Bryan got falls for Pace to push them into the lead 21-18 heading into the 195 lb. weight class. Big wins for Doug Dittmer and Austin Mitchum put NSB back in the lead before the Barracudas forfeited the 285 weight class. The dual was tied 272-27 heading into the final 3 weights and that is where NSB slammed the door. Simjay Engberg got a 12-1 major over William Mitchell and Aidan Sutton and Tristan Winfrey each got falls to push New Smyrna Beach into the semis with a 43-27 win.
Lake Gibson vs. Jesuit
Jesuit tried. Knowing that they were giving up 3 forfeits they moved their line-up around to try to make up for those 18 points against a very good team … and they almost did it. Chris Albo and Gavin Young came up huge for Jesuit at 126 and 138 with 1 points wins (Albo over Whidden 3-2 and Young over Stewart 11-10). Basile and the Crooks (sounds like a band name) pushed Jesuit to a 17-0 lead before Lake Gibson got on the board with an Abdon pin of Josiah Jenkins at 160. Sergio Desiante countered with a fall at 170, but then the Braves took over. Solorzano and Soto each got wins (Solorzano with a fall) and the 3 forfeits put Lake Gibson up 33-23. Jesuit would get 6 back from Danny Vargas at 113, but Alex Walker slammed the door on any Jesuit comeback with a 9-0 major of Nathan McGill. Lake Gibson advances 37-29 and will take on New Smyrna Beach in the semis.
Charlotte vs. Palmetto Ridge
Everyone knew this one was going to be fun. It was a series of runs by each team that really setup the final few matches. Charlotte defending State Champ Andrew Austin got things started with a 12-3 major over a tough Demtri Zertopoulis and Isaac Church pinned Vincent Sasso to put Charlotte up 10-0. Palmetto Ridge’s 2x State Runner-up Brennan Van Hoecke then got PR on track with a fall that was followed by a 12-3 major for Carson Miller and a fall by Roman Garcia at 152 to Palmetto Ridge in front 16-10. Charlotte then answered with Chase Ruiz at 160 with a major, 2 falls by Lucas Willis and Cody Rice, and then a tough 7-4 decision for Cael Newton to put Charlotte back in front 29-16. Palmetto Ridge’s heavy’s came up big for the team … Antonio Petraglia beat Biaggio Frattarelli 5-4 at 220 and Austin Foye pinned Nathaniel Box at 285 to bring Palmetto Ridge back to within striking distance 29-26. The two teams split 106 and 113 with Tyler Washburn (PR) pinning Camren French and Patrick Nolan (CH) teching Bernanrdo Barnhart - putting the score 34-31 Charlotte heading into the last match. Palmetto Ridge’s Jean Valoria was in control and on his way to win at 120 when he got the fall to put Palmetto Ridge into the semis opposite Southridge.
Heritage vs. Miami Southridge
Good dual that could’ve gone either way until we hit Dedric Marshall at 220. Nicholas Dukes started things off for Southridge with a fall at 126 and Heritage responded with 3 straight wins (including a major by Daniel Ferriera at 145) to take a 10-6 lead. Southridge is particularly tough at 152 and 160 with Cyrus Williams and Quiton Johnson - the two each got 1st period falls to push Southridge in front 18-10. Julian Stoneman countered for Heritage with an 18-1 tech at 170 and Vicente Angel Ramirez-Ellis got a forfeit at 182 to put Heritage back in front 21-18. Chance Gorman got an important win for Heritage at 195 with a 7-5 decision over Ruben Valdes to push Heritage up 24-18. But then the pins started coming … Marshall got a quick fall at 220, Marcelo Rosario pinned Williams Clement at 285 and Fredrick Mitchum pinned Solomon Peterson to put things nearly out of reach … Southridge led 36-24 with 2 matches remaining. Austin Jones took a forfeit at 113 before Southridge’s returning State Runner-up Connor Hueck out an exclamation of the dual with a 22 second fall of Ethan Cataldo. Southridge advances with a 42-30 win.
3A: Elite 8 (all matches began at 126)
Fleming Island vs. Timber Creek
Fleming Island and Timber Creek traded the first two matches with Riley Holton winning by tech fall at 126 for Fleming and Jayden Tapia downing Xavier Logan 11-5 for Timber Creek. But 5-3 would be as close Timber Creek would get to the Eagles. Fleming dominated from 138 to 220 except for a close win at 145 where Matthew Kotler (FI) downed Malik Tyrell-Crittington (TC) 10-9. Fleming Island had 7 falls in that span including 6 in the 1st period and went up 50-3. Daniel Garcia got a fall for Timber Creek at 285 and Trenton Dominguez followed that up with a 19-5 major decision at 106, but it was too little too late. Hunter Herrington one final fall for Fleming Island at 113 and Fernando Dominguez had a fall for Timber Creek at 120 to finish things up. Fleming Island lost a team point somewhere in the course of the dual and the final was 55-19.
Osceola vs. Riverdale
Riverdale and Osceola have battled back and forth all season for the #4 spot in the dual team rankings. Riverdale won 8, Osceola 6. Riverdale got 5 falls and Osceola had just 1 (and a forfeit). Ultimately it would be those two things that were the difference. Cooper Haase got Osceola out of the gate first with a 10-6 win over Nate Luders at 126. Jacob Bennett responded for Riverdale with a fall to put Riverdale up 6-3. Alex Soto (Rv) then downed George Duncan 6-4 before Riverdale forfeited 145 to Gunner Holland to even the score at 9-9. Jaekus Hines and Jared Dinh locked horns at 152 (way up from their normal 138 lb. weight class) with Hines getting the 14-1 major to push the Kowboys in front 13-9. From there it was Riverdale until the final two matches … they won at 160, and got falls from Rodriguez and Lavandera at 170 and 182. Nolin Eaddy stopped the streak when he got the fall for Osceola at 195, but he couldn’t stop the momentum. Shayne Parris and Jon Baxter each got falls for Riverdale and they were rolling - up 36-19. Charlie Smiarowski got a 6-4 win over Kealonie Vega at 106 and any thought of a comeback was done. Osceola finished with Anderson Heap getting a major decision at 113 and Raymond Martinez downing Jonovan Bennett 13-7, but Osceola couldn’t make-up for the 5 falls. Riverdale wins 39-26 and advances to take on Fleming Island in the semis.
Ft Pierce Central vs. Wellington
Well I was wrong on several points in my fan’s guide of this dual. I did say that Ft Pierce Central was tough from 152-285 (they won every single weight), but I also commented that they weren’t as strong down low … they won 3 of the 7 matches between 106 and 145. This one started out in Wellington’s favor. They won 3 of the first 4 matches including a tech fall by James Marvel and a fall by Ethan Howard. They gave up a fall to Russell Raabe at 132 and led 14-6 early. Unfortunately that is where the Wellington momentum would end. Ft Pierce Central took control of the dual with 8 consecutive wins including 4 falls and led 45-14 with just 2 matches remaining. Patrick Jones got a fall for Wellington at 113 before William McArdle put the icing on the cake with a 3rd period fall of Sam Marvel at 120 to finish things off. Ft Pierce Central wins 51-20 and advances to face South Dade in the semis.
Cypress Bay vs. South Dade
This was always going to be a bad match-up for Cypress Bay, but losing Jared Courson was a huge blow. Cypress Bay gave 3 forfeits from 182-220 and it is tough to beat any team giving up 18 (it is impossible to beat a team like South Dade by doing so). South Dade got off to a fast start with falls from Misha Arbos and Gavin Balmeceda. Alex Couto kept the ball rolling with a nice 7-2 win over Connor Ivory and Adrian Neco had a pin of Rafael Diniz at 145 to put South Dade up 21-0. Cordell White beat Erik Rodriguez 6-4 in a matchup of two of the top 152’s in 3A and Keith Crouse downed Justin Jensen 3-1 at 160. Defending 145 lb. State Champ Joshua Swan pinned Darrion Rodriguez and South Dade was into the semis with little fanfare. Cypress Bay finally got on the board when Javier Varas downed Jaden Salgado 6-3 in overtime and then Andrew Punzalan had a terrific win with a fall of Luis Acevedo at 106. Adrian Morales and Joshua Aviles finished things off for South Dade as they cruised 63-9.
