South Dade led the way with 1 Champ (Sawyer Bartelt), 1 Runner-up (EJ Solis), and 5 other placers (Luis Acevedo was 4th at 120, Misha Arbos was 4th at 145, Gavin Balmeceda was 3rd at 152, Lawrence Rosario was 4th at 170, and Chris Sanchez was 6th at 182). But as they often do … South Dade got it done on the backside - 12 of their 13 wrestlers scored points (they didn’t have a 113) and pushed past Lake Gibson after it was close for much of the tournament.
Lake Gibson had more finalists than South Dade (3 vs. 2), but could only get one champ (same as Dade). Tito Solorzano claimed his 2nd Knockout title with a win over Zach Weidler in the 182 lb. final. Christian Fretwell and Gianni Maldonado were 2nd and Elijah Lowe was 6th at 113. The loss of Hayden Whidden early in the tournament really hurt Lake Gibson’s shot at keeping pace with South Dade.
Jensen Beach had a great run to finish 3rd - just 11 points behind Lake Gibson and 4.5 points in front of Georgia 5A power Cass. The Falcons were led by Knockout Champion Sebastian Degennaro as well as 3 placers - Ryan Mooney who was 4th at 126, Jewell Williams who was 3rd at 145, and Nate Sopotnick who finished 5th at 195.
