Lake Highland Prep Takes 4th at National Preps
Mary Manis and Eligh Rivera each claimed National Prep Titles on Saturday. Manis, LHP’s only female wrestler, dominated the 100 lb. bracket on her way to a Prep Title. Manis pinned Cassidy McCusker in the semis before putting up a major decision on Kate Borkowski 14-5 in the finals. Eligh Rivera wrestled great in coming from the 6 seed to claim the 138 lb. title. Rivera had 2 falls and a 5-1 decision before being pushed to the brink in the semis by Blair Academy’s Paul Ognissanti. They finished regular time 0-0 and it would be a takedown and 3 nearfall at the end of the sudden victory period to claim the win 5-0. In the finals Rivera once again took it to overtime … ultimately getting the escape in the ultimate tiebreaker for a win over #4 seed Sam Cartella.
In all, Lake Highland Prep put 8 on the podium and finished 4th behind Wyoming Sem, Malvern Prep, and Blair Academy. Baylor (TN) finished 10th with 4 All Americans, Christian Brothers (TN) was 18th with 3 All Americans, and Lakeway Christian (TN) was 22nd with 1 All American. Cannon (NC), Montgomery Bell Academy (TN), McCallie (TN), Father Ryan (TN), and Memphis University (TN) each had an All American as well.

Other wrestlers with ties to the SE also competed and placed … wrestlers like Kai Owen, Nic Bouzakis, Marc-Anthony McGowan, Joe Sealey, Cooper Hilton, etc. … I do not cover them as they wrestle almost exclusively in the Northeast now (Owen was the only one of the group that came back and wrestled for Team Florida in Fargo). It is difficult enough to keep track of wrestlers from the SE when they venture to National Preps, Doc B, Ironman, Beast of the East, etc. … just don’t have the ability to keep track of them.
