US Open 2022 Schedule and Results
Not 100% sure of when everyone wrestles this weekend? I made this timeline to help me keep track. You can follow all of the action on Flo.
U17 Freestyle
Florida’s Sawyer Bartelt finishes 4th and Georgia’s Drew Gorman (5th) and Latrell Schafer (6th) make the U17 Freestyle podium
Florida’s Bartelt dropped another tough semifinal … this time in freestyle. He lost 6-5 to eventual Champ Max McEnelly after beating California’s Cody Merrill 1-1 in the quarters (the same Merrill he lost to in Greco). Gorman finished 6-2 with a loss to Kael Lauridsen in the quarters to drop into the consis before marching his way back to the podium with wins over Adrian Meza, Super 32 Champ Mason Gibson before losing to Sebolt’s Kale Petersen in the consis semis. A win over Lauridsen by injury default put Gorman 5th on the podium. Latrell Schafer fell to eventual Champ Joe Sealey in the quarters and then downed Brodie Dominque and David Mayora to make the podium and finish 6th.
Also a big congrats to Joe Sealey and Jax Forrest - both of whom won U17 and will make the trip to Rome this season. I routinely get asked on Social Media about not tagging Sealey, Forrest, Kai Owen, Gabe Arnold, etc. … the standing rule is that we focus on wrestlers that compete during their high school seasons in the six states we cover (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, and TN). Now we do cover things from March to November and the general rule as it relates to that is … if any of those former SE hammers are competing for their home state then we will be covering them (like Gabe Arnold did a year ago for Team Georgia), but if they compete for their “adopted” state (PA or wherever they are going to prep school) then we will not. This is an easier line to draw compared to trying to keep track of who has left the SE permanently (like the Bouzakis’s) and who is simply wrestling out of state (like Kai Owen who wrestles in the summer for Team Florida).

Florida’s Lincoln Sledzianowski claim the U15 44 kg Title; South Carolina’s Blue Stiffler claims the U15 62 kg title

Tennessee’s Hudson Chittum was a two time placer - 4th at 38 kg in Greco after taking 7th in Freestyle.
