Florida Super 32 Early Entry Tournament Results - Women's Folkstyle

After covering the high school boys and women’s freestyle, let’s look at how women’s folkstyle played out this past weekend in Kissimmee.

97 pounds
Camdyn Elliott, who would win 97 pounds in freestyle, didn't compete in folkstyle, but there were several who competed in both styles at 97 pounds. Maya Alvarado who finished 2nd in freestyle and Abigail Gonzalez who finished 3rd would compete. Gonzalez would pick up three straight pins to reach the finals, as Alvarado would grab two pins and a close decision 3-2 over AAU Florida state placer Miayalee Ortiz in the semifinals to set up an Alvarado/Gonzalez finals match. Gonzalez would knock off Alvarado via 6-0 decision to win the 97-pound folkstyle bracket. It just shows wrestling is wrestling. Folkstyle or freestyle is still wrestling. Two of the top four finishers in freestyle met in the finals of folkstyle. Think about that this spring when it’s freestyle season. Below are the top 4 finishers at 97 pounds.

At 103 pounds we had another example as to how freestyle and folkstyle are equally as important to developing as a wrestler. Reagan Thomas and Madelyne Bombardier who met in the finals of freestyle would meet again in the finals of folkstyle. Thomas would pick up a 13-0 major decision in round one over Michelle Rimel from Tarpon Springs, before defeating Joslyn Johnson from Palm Coast via a 9-4 decision and Gianella Walczak from Spring Hill via 6-0 decision on her way to the finals. On the other side, Bombardier had a sudden victory win 6-4 in round one over MacKenzie Allcroft from Port Saint Lucie, before pinning AAU Florida state champion Sayuri Caceres from Tallahassee in the semifinals to punch her ticket to a rematch with Thomas. But when the dust settled, Thomas once again defeated Bombardier via a 7-2 decision to win 103 pounds. Below are the top 4 finishers at 103 pounds.

Only two of the top four freestyle finishers competed in folkstyle at 108 pounds. Rebekkah Kinkade who won the freestyle bracket did not compete. 2nd place finisher Skyler Randolph and 3rd place finisher Adalyne Fowls competed in folkstyle. Regardless a new name would emerge at 108-pounds in Florida girls state placer Sofia Ferran from Hialeah Gardens. Ferran would pin Randolph in the opening round before pinning Victoria Sifuentes to punch her ticket into the finals. Fowls would be defeated in the semifinals 7-2 by Kendal Haynie from Crawfordville. This leads to a Ferran/Haynie finals match. Ferran would pick up a dominant win in the finals via 13-2 major to win 108 pounds. Below are the top 4 finishers at 108 pounds.

Aurora Guadiana, who would fail to place in freestyle, seems to have taken that personally here. Guadiana opened the day by pinning Jasmine Lilland from Valrico, before defeating Paola Ramirez from Kissimmee 11-5 and pinning Isabella Tellez from Miami to reach the folkstyle finals. Waiting for her in the finals was Emma Bauknight who had pinned her way through the freestyle bracket. Guadiana would pull it out in the end via 12-7 decision over Bauknight to win the 115-pound bracket. Below are the top 4 finishers at 115 pounds.

Do you know Arianna Ruiz from Pompano Beach? Well, you may want to remember the name. Ruiz, an AAU girls Florida state champion, and girls high school state placer was dominant for much of the day at 123 pounds. Ruiz, who did not compete in freestyle, opened the day with three straight pins before punching her ticket to the finals. Ruiz would face fellow state placer Ana Vilar who placed 2nd in freestyle in the finals. Ruiz would narrowly edge out Vilar to win the 123-pound bracket via a 4-0 decision. Rachel Silva, what else do you even say? Silva, who won freestyle, would once again show her dominance in folkstyle. Silva would pin her way through the tournament. Vivianna Caullett from West Palm Beach had a good day on the route to a 3rd place finish. After getting pinned in round one by 2nd place finisher Solana McCaughen from North Port, Caullett had a gutsy tournament to respond to the adversity of dropping an opening round match. Caullett would edge out AAU state placer Daniela Espinal from Brooksville 2-0 before defeating Kamiah Ross from Tampa 9-2, Genesis Fuentes from Puerto Rico 12-4 major decision, and pinning Isabel Alvarez from Rockledge to finish 3rd on the day. The Briggs/Kaminsky rematch was on deck at 139 pounds. Briggs three straight pins to reach the finals, while Kaminsky would pick up two pins and a major decision leading to the rematch of a tight 6-4 decision for Kaminsky over Briggs in freestyle. Ailee Briggs must have eaten her Wheaties in this match as she would go on to defeat Kaminsky via a 10-0 major decision in the finals of 139 pounds. A name that stood out even failing to make the podium was Scarlett Sans from Miami. Sans would go 3-2 on the day, with two pins and a close decision win over Bailey Beechler from North Port 9-7. Sans would drop matches to eventual winner Briggs in the semifinals, and one match from reaching the podium to Florida girls state placer Olivia Brown. Below are the top 4 finishers at 139 pounds.

Kendall Bibla, who won freestyle, would once again go on a run during folkstyle at 148 pounds.
Bibla would pin Hannah Viveros from Miami in the opening round before defeating Khaliyah Delva from Port Saint Lucie in a tight 11-8 decision win in the semifinals. This would lead to another rematch from freestyle with Bibla defeating Kristy More once again in the finals via a closer 6-2 decision. Elody Rodriguez, who failed to place in freestyle, would have a good day placing 3rd. Rodriguez would pick up an opening round 5-1 decision win over Ciara Cortez from Port Saint Lucie before dropping a 6-2 decision to More in the semifinals. Rodriguez would rebound and pin Mercedes Rivera from Orlando, Cortez in a rematch from the opening round to secure a 3rd place finish. Below are the top 4 finishers at 148 pounds.

In a very small round robin, there was only one match that took place. Gabrielle Proctor would pin Teegan Robinson. Proctor would win both freestyle and folkstyle at 160 pounds over the weekend.

In yet another small round robin at 172 pounds, Megan Preston, who finished 2nd in freestyle, would win the folkstyle bracket. Preston would pin Zuhaily Caffery and Payton Moyer en route to her 1st place finish.

With only two ladies competing at 195 pounds, it was quite interesting to see. Aryona Johnson from Kissimmee and Alexa Calidonio from Palm Coast would split the first two matches of the round robin with each picking up a pin. In the tie-breaker Calidonio would grab another pin to win 195 pounds.
