The Pirates return more state points in 4A than anyone else in the state. And that puts them with an excellent opportunity to make a run at a title in 2024. Lumberton finished 5th in 2023 and although they lost Makya Kerns to graduation … they return a ton of talent. The Pirates welcome back state runner-up Jackson Buck, state placers Trevelian Hall and Matthew Foil as well as State Qualifier James Ellison … each has their sights set on the top step and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lumberton wrestlers up and down the podium in 2024. But 4 placers - unless they are all champs - will likely not win you a team title. Three wrestlers that could push Lumberton over the top are Domicquen "Meek” Powell and Casey Hardin … both who have post-season experience and both could punch their ticket. A freshman to keep an eye on is Alexander "Xan" Moody … who the coaches are expecting to make an impact at 106 in 23-24. If the Pirates can get their four hammers to produce, get Powell, Hardin, and Moody through to the big dance, and get a solid effort from Anderson Brayboy, Braylon Bailey, and Dextor Stephens in the middle of the lineup … this team will be in the hunt for a trophy come February. - SEWrestle
