Love the quote from Coach Hage “… I would not attempt to predict what this team is capable of... anything is possible for these guys.” Not sure there is a more accurate statement in any of these state of the programs. This squad has a ton of potential. They finished 7th a year ago and although they lost two state placers … this team has all of the makings to be a team that will be in the hunt for a 3A title. The Indians have two returning Champs in Neilson and Marshall as well as State Placer Mike Nichols who claimed 4th as a freshman in 2023. Coach Hage also welcomes the return of Senior, and two time State Placer, Kerwin Martinez, who was out last season due to injury. But 3A will be a slugfest and ultimately it might come down to numbers … meaning returning state qualifiers Jacob Matthews, Jonah Holmes, Jacob Pricer, and Will Soles will play huge roles this season. Matthews nearly made the podium last year and will certainly be hunting a spot high on the podium in 2024. The 8 mentioned above will be huge for Lumpkin … but to win a title (either in duals or traditional) - others will likely need to step up. Keep an eye on freshman Aiden Marshall, junior AJ Scott, and senior move-in Joel Workman … they could push Lumpkin over the top in 2024. - SEWrestle
