Waccamaw lost a close one to Gilbert at last year’s state duals and though they graduate two senior state qualifiers - expect to see them back in the hunt in 3A in 2024. That is largely due to 9 returners including State Placer Kayden Melendez and 2023 State Qualifier Patrick Gallagher as well as 2022 State Qualifiers Colin Beever and Chance Flores. Bryson Williams, Owen Patterson, and Phoenix Sauter both came within a match of punching their ticket a year ago … expect them to do so in 2024. If Waccamaw can get 7 (or more) through to the big dance they have a shot at making some noise in 2024. This is a large squad with a lot of potential … but they will need to continue to develop, find the right weight for the team, and excel when called upon. Keep an eye on Julian Nimmons and Townsend Crosby - both juniors that could surprise some people as well. Lanna Coleman was a State Qualifier on the girls side … definitely another one to watch in 2024. - SEWrestle
