Wake Forest qualified 5 for the 2021 4A State Tournament and finished 15th. Three of those 5 qualifiers return in 2021-2022 led by returning State Champ Caleb Beaty. Beaty was super impressive in taking the top spot at 195 as a sophomore and downing Carson Floyd of Lake Norman in the finals. The Cougars also return qualifiers Bryanna Luihn and Thomas McHale. Both went 0-1 in a modified state tournament design in 2021 - but each will look to build on the experience and make the podium in 2022.
Wake Forest will lean heavily on Beaty, Luihn, and McHale, but will need others to step up in a tough 4A east. Keep an eye on Logan Woody, Bailey Wilman, Emmitt Holland, Kalin Sykes, and Jay Bolia … if those 5 returners can make a mark - the Cougars could push into the top 10 in 2022. Two other names to watch are Tyler Watt and Solomon Young … they will look to break into the lineup and make a difference in 2022 as well.
