State of the Program ... Fannin County (GA)

Fannin County (GA)

I will be the first to admit that when writing the Georgia 2A Fan’s Guide for the Traditional State Tournament a year ago - Fannin County wasn’t the team at the top of my list. I knew they had some outstanding individuals, but I wasn’t sure they could knock off the Dual State Champs (Oglethorpe County) or Dade County, Lovett, etc. Well that is why I shy away from predictions and why I talk so much about how winning a traditional title is different than winning a dual title.

The Rebels were simply outstanding in Macon and had individual after individual come through in a big way to lead them to the 2021 State Title. Kainan Henson, McCay Turner, and Kolton Stephens each played a big role in that team title and each has now graduated and moved on. The Rebels turn to some outstanding Juniors and an excellent Sophomore in 2021 106 lb. State Champ Blake Summers. Summers, Taylor Collis (State Placer at 138), Corbin Davenport (State Runer-up at 152), and Matthew Crowder (State Placer at 195) will lead the way in 2021-22. But just like a season ago - if Fannin is going to defend their title they will need more than the four mentioned above. Christen Newberry, Cooper Moreland, Dranke Cantrell, Colby Shaw, and Logan Long will play an important role in winning another title. Keep an eye on Carson Collis as well … he will look to make an impact in Macon in 2022.

With 10 returning starters we are very excited about the possibilities. If we can stay healthy I feel like we will be in the mix again at the end of the season.
