South Lenoir (NC)

South Lenoir broke into the 2A East top 10 a year ago and qualified 3 for the traditional state tournament. Two of those qualifiers, Rey Salinas and Tristan Reyes, have graduated leaving a fairly young squad for the 21-22 season. In fact - none of the returning wrestlers that competed in the 2021 post-season are Seniors this season (all Juniors and Sophomores).

The team returns State Qualifier Chris Haro who qualified at 113 a year ago and will look to make a push for a spot on the podium in 2022. South Lenoir will look to Anthony Mejia, Eddie Martinez, and others to keep South Lenoir competitive in 2021-22. Keep an eye on Gracie Elliott who returns after being out a year ago … “she should make a big impact at 106”. South Lenoir has a lot of kids in the room looking to find their spot in the lineup. Should be a fun year watching this team grow.

This year our team will be in the process of building a solid foundation. We lost 4 dedicated seniors this past year, but we were strong in underclassmen potential, and they are expected to step up and be a solid team this year. Team expectations/goals will be making the dual team playoffs and getting through to the second or third round.
