Mater Lakes finished 6th in 1A a year ago and given the firepower they return … this is a team looking to crack the top 5, top 3, and push the top teams for the title. Defending State Champ Ethan Vergara, ranked nationally by FloWrestling, as well as State Placers Ben Rogers and Dylan Garcia as well as 2019 State Qualifier Azakin Sejour will lead the way in their final season for the Bears. But what makes the Bears tough is their depth and talent spread throughout the lineup.
State Qualifiers Branden Marrero and Achilles Rocha will both be hunting a spot on the podium and keep an eye on Malikai Badillo and Jorge Garcia to make some noise in 2022 as well. The Bears also have quite a talented group of freshman coming in … in addition to Rocha, they will look to Damien Soto, Anthony O’Dell, Bryan Picallo, and Eric Hodge to make an impact. The Bears are in ultra-competitive Region 4, but expect this team to be in the thick of things throughout the 21-22 season.
