State of the Program ... Laney (NC)

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 6 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 170 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible.

Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews. Lastly, if you want to know whether we have your form … you can find the list of everyone that has submitted a form in the blog archive.

Laney (NC)

Coach Adams and the Laney Bucs took home the title in 4A in 2021 and aim to repeat that feat in 2022. Laney brought 11 to the tournament, put 6 on the podium (including State Champ Mark Samuel) and ran away with the title (beating Runner-up Cardinal Gibbons by 21 points. The Bucs do lose some firepower with the graduation of Daniel Shaof, Kanenan Barriner, etc. but they return a core group with experience and look poised to make a run again in 2022.

Returning State Champ Mark Samuel leads the way … but it is far from a one-man show. Laney also returns State Runner-up Devon Bell as well as Avery Buonocore, Noah Thomas, Jayden Harrison, and Charles Bishop. Don’t be surprised to see Alex Hopper, Lucas Cotto, Lucas Carpenter, and Daylon Horrell also make an impact in 2022.

The team is super motivated for a repeat state title. We want the full experience of winning in Greensboro Coliseum.
— Coach Adams
