State of the Program ... CATA (NC)

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 6 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 170 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible.

Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews. Lastly, if you want to know whether we have your form … you can find the list of everyone that has submitted a form in the blog archive.

Central Academy of Technology and Arts (NC)

CATA joins a host of outstanding teams in a very deep North Carolina 3A in 2021-2022. The Cougars are led by one of the best wrestlers in the nation in Kyle Montaperto. Montaperto is currently ranked 6th at 120 by FloWrestling and is also featured by many of the other national rankers. The University of Virginia commit will lead the way, but CATA isn’t just the Kyle Montaperto show … the Cougars are deep and will be in the hunt in February.

State Champs Aiden Curry and Brady Ross as well as State Placer Logan Fite join Montaperto in making a formidable quartet. Each will be in the hunt to be back on the podium again in 2022. But 3A is super deep and it will take more than four horses if CATA is going to claim the 3A team title. Elijah Harris and Colin Lutz as well as Louden Gregory will be called on to put up points.

The 2019 and 2020 2A State Tournament Champions are moving up to 3A. The Cougars still have enough fire power to be a contender at 3A. Led by three returning state champions, Kyle Montaperto, Aiden Curry, and Brady Ross. State placer Logan Fite looks to climb the podium as well. The CATA program has produced a state placer the last 12 consecutive seasons.
