Palmetto Ridge (FL)

Palmetto Ridge might be the best team in Florida in 2021-2022. That is a big statement considering the Bears are moving to 3A and will need to unseat the defending State Champs - South Dade - to make the statement true. But Coach Ison has all of the pieces in place to make a serious run at a 3A title. Palmetto Ridge will be one of the most exciting teams to watch with the return of State Champs Tyler Washburn and Brennan Van Hoecke as well as State Runners-up Carson Miller and Roman Garcia.

Garcia was a double All American in Fargo and comes into the 2021-2022 season with a lot of momentum. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bears put four on the top step of the podium in Kissimmee in March. Whether they can knock off South Dade or not will likely come down to how well the returning State Placers wrestle in 2022 … Demetri Zertopoulis, Gregorio Herrera, and Austin Foye as well and State Qualifiers Bernardo Barnhart, Jean Valoria, and Leonard Feliciano could be the key to Palmetto Ridge taking the 3A trophy back to Southwest Florida.

We are very excited for the 2021-2022 season. Last year was a successful but not satisfying season. This year will bring new challenges that we are eager to conquer!

The Chargers qualified two for the 2021 2A State Tournament and both Holden Kapsos and Sebastian Macauley return for their senior seasons. Kapsos and Macauley will look to make the podium in Kissimmee in 2022, but will also be counted on to lead the next group. Kapsos and Macauley could be joined in Kissimmee by fellow senior Yumandy Espinoza who finished with 2 wins at the Region 4 tournament and will look to book his ticket to Kissimmee in 2022.

Vinny Berkoff, Sebastian Cordon-Coro, and Chad Senecal will also look to make an impact on 2022. Suncoast has gotten better in the 4 years under Tria’s reign and will look to take another step this coming season.

The team will be lead by State Qualifiers Kapsos and Macaulay. Espinosa trained hard this summer. The success of the season comes down to the leadership shown by these three seniors.

The Stallions of AHDB finished 3rd at the Florida Class 1A State Tournament in 2021 and return nearly all of their hammers in 2021-2022. AHDB has to be considered amongst the favorites to claim the 1A State Title in 2022, but the path is anything but easy. The Stallions share District 14 with Cardinal Gibbons (who was 5th in 2021) and Region 4 with defending State Champs Somerset Academy, Jensen Beach (who was 4th in 2021), and Mater Lakes (who was 6th in 2021).

AHDB return 6 that made the podium in 2021 including State Champ Mikey Tal-Shahar and State Runners-up Joseph Nicolosi and Omer Barak. State Placers Andrew DeSola, Rafael Romero, and Chase Thompson all have the ability to claim the top step themselves. In a very tough Region 4 - it might come down to how well wrestlers like Jonathan Hudson, Anthony Nicolosi, and others wrestle. Keep an eye on freshman Frankie Florio - he could be another Stallion making noise in March.

We have a solid core of experienced student-athletes. They have have put great efforts into their summer workouts. We have big goals this season both team and individual.
