North Forsyth (GA)

The Raiders finished tied for 4th with Colquitt County at last year’s 7A State Tournament … but this year’s squad is almost certainly better. State Champ Bentley Wheeler, State Runner-up Tristan Graham, State Placer Cale Bissell each return and should be the favorite (or amongst the favorites) in their weight. The Raiders should welcome back hammer Dylan Lyerly from injury and that makes four Raiders that should be on the podium in 2022.

North Forsyth probably doesn’t have the horses to take down Camden, but they certainly have the team to be in the top 2 when all is said and done. Their “eligible” (and I use the word eligible because until we get to the season - it is hard to know exactly who will be back - and that goes for every team) wrestlers return 87 of their 100 points from the 2021 State Tournament (only losing Reyes to graduation) - that puts them neck and neck with Lowndes behind Camden (in terms of returning point-getters). The key for the Raiders is the return of Lyerly and the wrestling of returning State Qualifiers Michael Gryder, Cody Scroggins, and Collin Miller. If Wheeler, Bissell, and Graham each do what they did in 2021, Lyerly returns to his 2020 form, and Gryder, Scroggins, and Miller each make the podium - this team is going to be tough to beat in 2022.

And yes Coach Jarrard - I know you want me to use the other logo … I just can’t find it.

Not sure what we will have depthwise, but if everyone gets to the weights that they think they will get to, and we stay healthy, we should be solid from top to bottom.

Model (GA)

Model returns nearly all of their point-getters from last year’s squad and should be even better in 2021-2022. The Blue Devils return State Placers Noah Allmon - 3rd last year 138 as a sophomore - and Kalan Woods - 5th at 160 as a junior. Allmon and Woods will look to lead a number of Blue Devils onto the podium in 2022.

Jonah Houston, Byron Clarke, Rylee Kines, and Anthone Williams each won a match (or more) at the 2021 2A State Tournament and will look to make a push for the podium n 2022. This is a team that has a nice distribution of talent across the grade levels and should continue to get better as 2021-2022 rolls along and into 2022-2023 as well.

We are returning 9 state qualifiers from this past season. We will be looking to those young men for leadership and toughness. We were young last year and now have a year of experience to continue to build on and looking forward to a strong season.
