Powdersville (SC)

Coach Mascaro returns for year #8 and the Patriots will look to improve on their 4th place finish in 3A in 2021. Powdersville matched 3A Champs Belton Honea Path with 3 individual champs, but didn’t have the other horses to stay with them through the consolation matches. 113 lb. State Champ Tom Ross has since graduated, but the Patriots return Champs Dylan Brooks and Nick Wattenbarger as well as State Qualifier Jalen Rambert.

Brooks, Wattenbarger, and Rambert should score a ton of points, but if the Patriots are going to knock off BHP, West-Oak, Gilbert, etc. they will need some other to step up in 2022. Keep an eye on Noah Gregory, Landon Bishop, and JJ Balmori as well as Ethan Cheek, Gabe Finley, Cooper Butler, and Kole Coleman. Powdersville will be a force again in 2022 - how much of a force in the team race might be up to how well those 7 wrestle in 21-22.

Dutch Fork (SC)

Coach Bush takes over the Dutch Fork program and will look to take the team in an entirely new direction in 2021-2022. The Silver Foxes had one State Placer in Tanner Ginn, but will look to embark on a new path with some new faces this coming season. Coach Bush has identified a few wrestlers that will be key to leading the transformation.

Evan Falise, Jordan Vining, Tyler Boone, and Kolin Kunkle each got varsity matches a year ago and will look to be the catalyst to the change that Coach Bush is looking to create at Dutch Fork. South Carolina 5A with River Bluff, White Knoll, and others is a tough group to break into, but the Silver Foxes will look to make an impact this season.

The team has a new revitalized mentality going into this year and they are looking to not only be on top of their region (arguably the hardest region in the state with River Bluff, Lexington, White Knoll, and Chapin), but the top in the state.

State of the Program ... Waccamaw (SC)

Waccamaw (SC)

Waccamaw qualified Ryan Gallagher a year ago for the 3A State Tournament and Coach Williams has to expect many more Warriors at the state tournament in 2022. Aaron Sellers transferred from Socastee and should make a huge impact. Sophomores Isaiah Cobbler (138-145) and Phoenix Sauter (120-126) both started last year as freshmen, and will look to make a huge impact in 2022. Jackson Mattox, 285 lb. junior, finished 3rd in the Region and should be a force in 21-22 as well.

Waccamaw also has region champs Stacy Wilson and Colin Beaver returning. If Coach Williams can get those 7 in the mix and add a few others to fill the line-up … Waccamaw should be tough to beat in 2022.

Ryan Gallagher is our dog. He finished 1st in our region, 3rd in the lower state. He was losing 0-9 in the 1st round, and fought back to lose a close 11-9 match. Ryan is a Junior. Watch for returning Region Champions, senior, Stacy Wilson at 145 and sophomore Colin Beaver at 106.
