2023 Recap: Finished 80th at the Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Jocey Byers - SQ at 140

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 145 Jocey Byers

Madison County only reports one wrestler, but it is a good place to start if the program is going to build. Byers qualified for the state tournament as a freshman in 2024. Next step is making the podium this coming season. Who knows the next Morgan County State Champion could be Jocey Byers and having a state placer or state champ can only help drive interest. - SEWrestle

2023 Recap:

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107 Lillian Prendergast

  • 114 Julianna Herold

  • 120 Sara Sparks

  • 132 Maddie Lower

  • 138 Natalia Sanchez

  • 165 Emma Yopp

  • 185 McKenzie Shadle

No quote for Coach Prendergast so we went with the one above … with basically sums up the analysis of the South Brunswick girls. Lily Prendergast is an absolute hammer - placed a year ago and should be considered one of the favorites to claim a title at 107 this season. South Brunswick is 7 deep with some experience. Mckenzie Shadle was 2nd at the Women’s Showcase last year and was joined by Natalia Sanchez and Emma Yopp at the East Region as well. This team isn’t ready to make a run at Lumberton for a title, but Prendergast will be hunting an individual title and the rest of the squad will look to get several through to the big dance at the end of the season. - SEWrestle

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107 Cadence Clark

  • 120 Anabel Rodriguez

  • 138 Giovanna Disbennet

Despite this being the first “official” year for women’s wrestling in North Carolina … some programs have been established for years. Dixon is one of those programs with several hammers on their squad. Anabel Rodriguez is nationally-ranked in the latest USA Wrestling Rankings - coming in at #29 at 125. Rodriguez claimed the 120 lb. title a year ago and will look to be amongst the first official group of champs in 2024. Giovanna Disbennet and Cadence Clark are both returning invitational qualifiers and both will be hunting a spot on the podium in 2024 as well. If Coach Brothers can add a few more hammers to the mix they could be a team to watch. - SEWrestle
