Murray County loses some firepower with graduation of Aaron Flood, Dawson Hope, and Luke Sims, but return State Placer Caleb Blair and State Qualifier Todd Banks. Blair was 3rd a year ago as a sophomore and is back hunting the top step this year. Banks also won matches in Macon and will be looking to make the podium in his final trip to Macon. The key for Murray County is the rest of the squad. Coach Enloe has a lot of wrestlers with post-season experience in Danny Ramirez, Eli Bowers, Aiden Johnson, Landon Souther, and Brayden Thompson … they just need to take that next step and punch their ticket to Macon. This team will be solid in 2023-2024, but could be special next season … of the names mentioned just Banks and Ramirez are seniors and Coach Enloe has brought in a solid freshman class. Keep an eye on Elijah Holmes as well as a pair of freshmen in Bransyn Perry and Domingo Sanchez. 2A better keep their eyes open as Murray County is looking to take another step toward the top of the mountain. - SEWrestle

The Greyhounds enter 2023-2024 will a little chip on their shoulder after being turned away from a team title in 2023. They claimed the dual title with a hard fought 36-34 win over Vancleave, but couldn’t match them at traditional and finished 2nd. With a ton of seniors on the squad … this group wants to finish their prep careers with the title. Gabe Shanks and Lucas Hall both claimed individual titles last year and headline a stout group of seniors that includes State Runners-up Jared Barr, Gabe Beeman, and Trent Schlosbery as well as State Placers Xavier Smith and Elijah Thompson. This team is stacked from top to bottom. The key for Ocean Springs will be the rest of the squad … Wyatt Jones, Garner Taylor, and Heisman Murphy were each 6th last year … if they can climb the podium then the Greyhounds will be tough to beat. Keep an eye on Ohio move-in William Pask who could be the difference when all is said and done. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Travelers Rest (SC)

Coaching Staff:

Ted Henderson (7 years. This will be #8)

  • Chad McLees

  • Bryan Isbell

  • Mark Knepp

  • Bryan Stevens

  • Stephan Wiseman

2023 Recap:

Individuals:

  • Lucas Tankersly - 3rd at 220

  • Mitch Knepp - SQ at 170

Graduated:

  • Aiden Shepherd - 2nd at 138

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 126-138 John Matt Stevens (10)

  • 175-215 Mitch Knepp (11)

  • 175-190 Ace Evett (12)

  • 190-285 Lucas Tankersley (10)

  • 215-285 Noah Baker (12)

Travelers Rest has the top part of their lineup locked down with Knepp, Evett, Tankersley, and Baker. They will be tough to beat from 175-285 … the key for the team as a whole is who fills in the spots down low and through the middle. Look for a trio of freshmen in Jackson McLees, Peyton Burns, and Riley Broderick to step in from 106-138 as well as sophomore Ayden Hicks. The Devildogs will also look a trio of freshmen through the middle of the lineup with JT Burns, Jordan Williams and Aiden Garret looking to step up from 138-165. Noah Arrowood is another freshman that could step in up top, but finding a spot in the lineup at 285 could prove to be a challenge. Travelers Rest is super young … so there might be a few growing pains this season, but expect this team to grow by leaps and bounds this season. The team that takes the mat in November will not be the same team looking to make some noise in February. - SEWrestle
