State of the Program - Cary Girls (NC)

Coaching Staff:

Steven Amaya/Brandon Wilkins

  • Jacob Tutterrow

  • Carlos Alvarez

  • Brett Colyer

2023 Recap:

  • First official season in North Carolina

Individuals:

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107-114 Riley Evans (SR)

  • 120-126 Nadia Hinton (SO)

  • 126-132 Alfa Dominguez-Gutierrez (SR)

  • 152-185 Stephany Ordonez Posadas (JR)

If you’ve read any of the other state of the programs for North Carolina … this will sound like a broken record … but with this being the first year in North Carolina we are bound to see a bunch of new faces. But much of the Cary squad has been competing for years and they already know this routine. Alfa Dominguez-Gutierrez is one of the top 126-132’s in the state. She won the last “unofficial” title a year ago and will look to cap off her career with an NCHSAA title in 2024. She is joined by Riley Evans who qualified a year ago and will also look to make the podium in her final run this season. Keep an eye on Nadia Hinton and Stephany Ordonez Posades as well. Hinton moved in a year ago and is now ready to make a run at 120-126 this season. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Lake Gibson Girls (FL)

Coaching Staff:

Brent Jorge

2023 Recap:

  • Finished 18th at the Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Gabby Tedesco - State Champion at 105

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 100 Gabby Tedesco

  • 114 Ami Ortiz

You couldn’t find a better foundation on which to build a program as what the Gibson coaches have in Gabby Tedesco. Tedesco is not only a great wrestler - filling in at 106 for the boys when needed and winning Fargo titles, but she is also a tremendous worker, leader, and teammate. Tedesco is one of the best 100-105 lbers in the country and is back this season to make a run at another Florida state title. She is joined by Ami Ortiz. With just the dynamic duo as returners … this team won’t likely make a run for a top 10 finish, but they have the wrestlers in Tedesco and Ortiz to begin building what could be a solid foundation for the future. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - South Florence Girls (SC)

Coaching Staff:

Josh Williams

  • Malaya Wilson (Girls assistant coach)

  • Marcus Montgomery (Boys Head Coach)

  • Shyhiem Perry (Boys assistant Coach)

2023 Recap:

  • Finished 7th at the Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Brittany Sloan - SQ at 106

  • Jha lyn Roman - SQ at 170

  • Nasier Ellerbe - SQ at 152

Graduated:

  • Kennedy Williams - State Champion at 235

  • Malaya Wilson - 6th at 126

  • Tameshia Davis - SQ at 138

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • Nasier Ellerbe 12

  • 165 Jha-Lyn Roman 11

Losing State Champ Kennedy Williams to graduation as well as Malaya Wilson and Tameshia Davis will take some time to recover from. Still South Florence returns Nasier Ellerbe ad Jha-Lyn Roman … both of whom qualified in 2023 and nearly made the podium. South Florence will look to some new faces to step in this season, but how high South Florence climbs will be up to how well Ellerbe and Roman compete in 2024. - SEWrestle
