Coach Hewgley has assembled quite a crew that has been competing for a bit (but are mostly new to the sport) and are eager to make a splash in the first official year for women in North Carolina. Looking up and down the roster you see a ton of upperclassmen with 6 seniors and 6 juniors. The crew is new, but there are a few that we think you should pay attention to … Sofia Ortiz and Ky Nelms both attended summer camp at App State and have constantly been looking to push themselves to get better. Jiselle Riley competed a year ago at Green Level and that experience should be an asset for this squad in 2023-2024. Rya Menon is new to wrestling, but has a background in combat sports - having done jiu jitsu for years (we’ve seen girls all over with those skills make the transition and excel in wrestling). Lastly, the coaches love the work ethic of Shreya Kunwar … they expect big things from the entire group and expect each will make big jumps in their abilities over the course of the season. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Ocean Springs Girls (MS)

Coaching Staff:

Jay Snow

2023 Recap:

Individuals:

Graduated:

  • I’m not certain if women’s wrestling is sanctioned in Mississippi yet. If not, it is coming soon.

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107 Jaylah Anderson

  • 126 Alora Hindman

  • 132 Lauren Hill

  • 138 Rylee Matthews

The Ocean Springs women’s program, just like the men’s program, is solid and ready to make a run to the top step in 2024. Alora Hindman and Jaylah Anderson are both returning Champs and will look to repeat that accomplishment in 2024. Senior Lauren Hill will lead what will be a mix of veteran talent and some new faces. Hindman, Anderson, Hill, and Matthews will look to continue to set the foundation of what could develop into of the best programs in the state, the SE, etc. It will be interesting to see how many will take that next step this season. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Montgomery Central Girls (TN)

Coaching Staff:

Steven Heberer

2023 Recap:

  • Finished 5th at the Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Audrey Levendusky - State Champion at 126

  • Cearyona O`Conner - 5th at 165

  • Audra Buckley - 6th at 185

  • Gracie Tuberville - SQ at 107

  • Lily Peters - SQ at 152

Graduated:

  • Genesis Gilmore - State Champion at 145

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • No Roster Provided

Although we didn’t get a roster from Coach Heberer … most of the names are included in the quote above. This is a team that will need to replace Genesis Gimore, but beyond that they have an opportunity to be very good. The Indians finished 5th a year ago and there is no reason to think they can’t push for the top spot in 2024. The crew is led by freshman State Champ Audrey Levendusky as well as sophomore State Placer Cearyona O’Conner and Audra Buckley. If Montgomery Central can get Gracie Tuberville and Lily Peters onto the podium in their last season … the Indians could be tough to beat. Keep an eye on Emily Whitmore and Jo Kolozy … both will look to make some noise this season as well. This is a good team from top to bottom with some outstanding individuals. - SEWrestle
