  • 138 Promise Parlet

  • 152 Kayleigh Savage

  • 165 Talisa Austin

St. Martin enters as the early favorites on the girls side. They return a ton of talent. I’m not certain how the girls state tournament works in Mississippi given that two St. Martin Yellowjackets made the podium at the same weight a year ago (and it looks like both scored points). Still … Parlet, Savage, and Lindsey were all in the finals and that should bode well for Coach Hodgson and his crew heading into 2023-2024. Keep an eye on Alajia Green and Briley Danley as well as Makenzie Rocco and Gracie Ziegler. Based on returning talent … St Martin looks like the team to beat in 2024. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Alcoa Girls (TN)

Coaching Staff:

Brian Gossett

  • Justin Smither

2023 Recap:

  • Finished 32nd at the Traditional State Tournament

Individuals:

  • Emma Young - 4th at 235

  • Betzy Sanchez Ponce - SQ at 100

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107 Betsy Sanchez

  • 235 Enma Young

Both qualifiers from a year ago return. Emma Young placed 4th and will look to take the next step and climb to the top of the podium in 2024 (her final season at Alcoa). Betsy Sanchez qualified as a sophomore in 2023 and is hunting a spot on the podium in 2024. But beyond that Alcoa will feature a ton of new faces. Young and Sanchez will lead the way, but Coach Gossett will look to add some new hammers to the mix in 23-24. - SEWrestle

State of the Program - Weaver Girls (AL)

Coaching Staff:

Andy Fulmer (21 years)

  • Justin Brown

2023 Recap:

  • First year for the “official” women’s state tournament in Alabama

Individuals:

Graduated:

2023-2024

Returners (Grade):

  • 107 Kira Benson

  • 114 Kynlee Fulmer

  • 120 Ali Anderson

  • 126 Kallie Mayfield

  • 132 Mariah Johannson

  • 138 Lena Johannson

This team could be sneaky good. Flying under the radar as everyone talks about Daphne, Sparkman, and Thompson … Weaver returns a ton of talent led by Fargo All American Lena Johannson. Although this is the first official season … Weaver (like many of the other top programs) has been competing for a long time. Johannson has taken the top spot each of the last two years and Ali Anderson and Mariah Johannson were second a year ago. It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Weaver could have three individual champs when we are finished with 2024. The key for Weaver is Kynlee Fulmer, Kallie Mayfield, and Kira Benson … all three have competed previously and if each can make a run to the podium … Weaver could be tough to stop. Keep an eye on Ariel Sargent, Baleigh Brown, Heaven Bishop, and Jaylyn Medley - this is a team that could make some noise. Not many people are talking about Weaver as begin the season, but don’t be surprised if they are in the conversation when we get to the end. - SEWrestle
