It was over when … Clay started their string of wins at 160. Ethan Larsen’s big win over Daniel Brittain of Wakulla 7-5 at 170 was huge and the match was over when Josh Kumpf put the final nail in the coffin with a pin at 106 to put Clay up 42-12 on their way to a 57-18 win.
Braden Glavin got a huge win over Conner Brown at 113 - 7-5 SV1 - it was needed for the dual, but it was a big individually.
Hudson vs. Lemon Bay
It was over when … Lemon Bay started their string of falls up top with Chase Alden, Lance Schyck, and Marcus Lopez.
Hudson won the opening match at 138 with a fall by Gio Stramiello, but Lemon Bay dominated from that point forward - 11 falls in their 13 wins.
Hernando vs. Palm Bay
It was over when … Carlos Gerardino of Palm Bay edged Devin Williams 1-0 at 285. That put Palm Bay up 33-10 and made the path a win virtually non-existent. Logan Delos Santos officially put it out of reach when he got the fall a match later at 106.
Shaver Jackson downed TJ Rodier 8-4 at 120 in one of several close individual matches … Nate Greene topped Brycen Turner 6-4 SV1 at 170 for Hernando. Hernando couldn’t match Palm Bay’s falls … Hernando had 5 wins and just 4 total bonus points.
Jensen Beach vs. Mater Lakes
Best match of the opening round - as expected
It was over when … Johnny Dobbs downed Emmanuel Celestin 9-2 at 126. The outcome was in doubt until that point with the dual being 30-27 Jensen Beach with 2 matches remaining. Dobbs’s win meant Dylan Garcia would need a fall of Ryan Duguay at 132 … officially it wasn’t over until Duguay won in overtime, but a fall was not likely in the cards for Garcia.
Jensen Beach won 9 matches compared to Mater Lakes 5. Anthony O’Dell’s massive fall at 113 over Gian Ortiz gave Mater Lakes a shot, but they couldn’t get it done in the final 3 matches.
