Hewitt-Trussville 35, Bob Jones 25

7A Quarters

Very competitive dual with just 5 falls in 14 matches … meaning we had many more decision wins than what you might see in other duals. In fact, Hewitt-Trussville started off with 3 consecutive decision wins - 6-3 by Charlite Buttiker over Will Zerangue at 165, a 9-6 decision by Trip Cole over Ben Crouse at 175, and a 4-1 decision by Delvecchio Alston over Sheldon Sharp at 190. Bob Jones countered with a fall by Gideon Roll and a solid 3-0 decision by Tafari Alcime over Zack Chatman in a battle of two of the best 285’s in the state … that tied it up 9-9 after 5 matches. Gavin Bittle and Clark Box got two huge falls for Hewitt at 106 and 120 (with a Colton West decision for Bob Jones in between) to push the Hewitt lead to 21-12 with 6 matches remaining. Bradley Hastings put up another 4 for Hewitt with a 17-8 major decision win over Kaden Clark before Zander Samargia got Bob Jones back in it with a fall at 132 (Hewitt leads 25-18). Ian Hodgin might have had the biggest fall of the evening with a quick 1st period pin of Carter Lindsey at 138 in what would prove to be the difference in the dual. Jack Shaver and Jackson Caballero got a decision and a major decision win for Bob Jones, but they trailed 31-25 heading into the final match of the night at 157. Jacob Triplett put an exclamation on things for Hewitt with a 14-5 major decision to push the Huskies into the 7A Semifinals.
