Smiths Station wins final 3 matches to down Daphne

7A Quarters

Smiths Station 42, Daphne 36

A wild one in Alabama 7A South. Smiths Station opened with a fall from Timothy Luttrell, but it was Daphne that took control with 3 falls and an 11-9 sudden victory by Jacob Sweet at 144 to lead 21-6. Nathaniel Jarmon pinned Kohwen Kirkpatrick at 165 to bring Smiths Station back into the dual (21-12), but a fall from Levi Hoots and a 7-0 Colton Rainer win at 190 pushed Daphne’s lead to 30-12 with just 6 matches remaining. Smiths Station got two huge falls from Xerxes Ellison and Lance Peterson at 215 and 285 to cut into the Daphne lead 30-24, but a fall by Micah Swiger at 106 for Daphne put them on the cusp of the win with a 36-24 lead. That’s when the Smiths Station lightweight went to work … Eli Sanders got a fall at 113 and Sam Mock followed it up with a fall at 120 to tie the match 36-36 with just one match remaining. Richard Munguia’s fall of Ethan Curry at 126 cemented the comeback and pushed Smiths Station into the 7A Semifinals.
