NHSCA Junior Champs and All Americans
The SE Juniors had a great run this past weekend … here is how each state finished:
Georgia and California tied Pennsylvania with 2 Champs apiece, but it was NY that took home the prize for the most All Americans with 12. PA had 10 and then the SE states came in strong with …
Alabama had 4
Florida 6
Georgia had 8
Louisiana had 1
North Carolina had 3
South Carolina had 3
Tennessee had 4
The SE finished 13-15 in their final matches. The Florida juniors struggled a little going 1-5 In their last matches of the day, but still put 6 on the podium - 3 of which took 2nd.

Finals
106 Raekwon Shabazz Middletown, CT (CT) DEC Jack Bergmann Wanaque, NJ (NJ), 5-4
113 Jermaine Peace Summerville, SC (SC) DEC Colyn Limbert OH (OH), 6-4
Peace came in with his sights set on a rematch with Gill, but that didn’t materialize after Gill lost in the quarters to Wehner. Peace was workmanlike in his approach to claiming the title. Winning matches by fall or tech fall, but also grinding out decisions like 5-2. His finals match was that type of effort as he got 3 takedowns in the opening period and took a 6-3 lead into the 2nd. Limbert got an escape in the 2nd to narrow it to 6-4, but that would be as close as he would get as Peace would claim the 113 lb. title.
120 Isaiah Quintero Placentia, CA (CA) F Ethan Rivera Orlando, FL (FL), 8:30
Rivera vs. Quintero felt like the finals match all weekend and both left little doubt as they marched through the bracket. The finals was 1-1 and went to overtime where it basically came down to Rivera unable to get out on bottom in either the 2nd tiebreaker or in the ultimate tiebreaker. Not sure why it shows a fall as Quintero rode Rivera out in the UTB to win.
126 Nikolaus O’neill Philadelphia, PA (PA) DEC Mason Ziegler Quakertown, PA (PA), 5-0
132 Tyson Sherlock Linthicum, MD (MD) FOR Mason Kernan Bethel Park, PA (PA)
138 Gabriel Bouyssou Hope, RI (RI) TF Brayden Robison Bluebell, UT (UT), 21-6 4:18
145 Logan Fowler Cleveland, TN (TN) MD Jonathan Fuller Rahway, NJ (NJ), 8-0
Not sure anyone wrestled better than Logan Fowler did all weekend. He beat the top seed Barbosa in the round of 32 8-1 before beating Griffin, Hibler, Ploehn, and finally a dominant major decision of Joanthan Fuller 8-0 in the finals. Fowler outscored his opponents 68-2 over the weekend.
152 Conner Harer Montgomery, PA (PA) DEC Lj Araujo Bismarck, ND (ND), 4-3
160 Latrell Schafer Bonaire, GA (GA) DEC Kendrick Hodge Miami, FL (FL), 5-2
All SE final that didn’t disappoint. Both Schafer and Hodge came into the final on a roll and it would be interesting to see who could keep it going in the finals. Schafer got the opening takedown in the 1st and then an escape in the 2nd to put himself up 3-0 heading into the 3rd. A tough ride by Schafer put him in excellent position as Hodge finally got the escape with 36 seconds remaining in the match. Scahfer would go onto win the title with a 5-2 decision.
170 Nate Blanchette Methuen, MA (MA) MD Omer Barak FL (FL), 14-6
Barak hada tough finals match as he was outgunned from the start - going down 6-2 after the 1st period, but his run to the finals was impressive. He won close matches against Georgia’s Landon Jones (in sudden victory) and Tyler Secoy (ultimately a fall, but a close match in the 3rd) as well as a tough 6-3 decision of Israel Perez of Rhode Island in the semis.
182 Hoke Poe-hogan Commerce, GA (GA) MD Ayden Flores Maize, KS (KS), 10-2
Hoke Poe-Hogan came in ready to go this weekend and looked ready to claim a 2nd NHSCA title after accomplishing that feat a year ago. His toughest match came early on against Caleb Marzolino of PA - a 3-2 win in the Round of 32. Otherwise he rolled with a tech fall, a 9-4 decision of Austin Lewis and a 10-2 major of Flores in the finals.
195 Ryland Whitworth Huntington Beach, CA (CA) DEC Gage Yackee Holland, OH (OH), 4-2
220 Cy Kruse Ham Lake, MN (MN) DEC Brenan Morgan Aliquippa, PA (PA), 8-2
285 Navarro Schunke Brandon, SD (SD) MD Andre Mcfadden Lake City, SC (SC), 8-0
Unseeded Andrew McFadden had quite a run … one that came up just short in the finals against the #1 seed Navarro Schunke of South Dakota. McFadden dominated with 4 falls and then a 6-0 decision of Gabriel Garibaldi of New York in the semis. Outstanding run for the hammer from the Palmetto State.
