Greenbrier has been the model of consistency for the last handful of years … always qualifying 4-6 wrestlers and being in the hunt for a top 5 finish. Last year, Greenbrier qualified 7 and from an outsiders perspective it seems the expectations have shifted … instead of being in the hunt - Coach Abero has his Wolves expecting to be on the top step. This team is now positioned to reload each and every year and the 2023-2024 squad is no exception. The core is led by three returning State Placers that expect to win an individual state title in 2024. Boston McDermott was 4th in 2023 with Ryan Clayborn and Sebastian Melendez each taking 6th. The trio will lead Greenbrier in 2024, but it will be up to the rest of the squad where this team finishes out the season. Leo Gallagher, Benny Phillips, Caden Pollard, Jack Mathieu, Nate Rank, and Kemper Schlereth all have post-season experience and each expects to punch his ticket to Macon in 2024. It wouldn’t be surprise to see 9 or 10 Wolves on the mats in Macon in February. Keep an eye on Karter Watson, Alex Salser and many others to step up if they are called on. - SEWrestle
