Coach Jim Gassman takes over at Jackson County, but don’t expect anything different than what you’ve seen from the Panthers for the last decade. Jackson County has routinely put 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 wrestlers through to Macon and this year’s edition is just as talented. The Panthers do lose State Champion Jose Pacheco as well as State Placers Ramon Castillo and Ethan Logan as well as SQ Holden Gilstrap, but they also return a plethora of talent. Senior State placer Xavier Cepican has had an outstanding “off-season” and will be hunting the top step as will fellow placer Domynic Thompson. Dylan and Tony Jurovschi and Zack Scott all qualified a year ago and each has his sights set on the podium in 2024. The big question for the Panthers is who will in the next group of qualifiers … because they will ultimately have a huge impact on where Jackson County finishes the 2024 season. Beau Hoffman, David Warr, and Josh Mendoza all have sectional experience and will be expected to be important parts of the lineup. Keep an eye on Alonso Ortiz and senior Malachi Kahele Carranco as well as a trio of freshmen in Donavon Spry, Robert Spry, and Daylan Maxwell. - SEWrestle
