South Effingham wrestled as a complete team a season ago and came away with the 6A Dual State Title. They finished 2nd to a tough Woodward Academy squad at Traditional and despite graduating a few hammers … this squad is back in force and ready to defend their title and make a run at traditional. The loss of Santana, Tootle, Sessions, and Christmas is not inconsequential … all four played important roles for South Effingham during the 2022-2023 season. BUT the Mustangs return a ton of talent and welcome an outstanding group of freshmen. As a result … they have to be considered one of the favorites in 2023-2024. Ashton Anderson claimed the 285 lb. title a year ago and will look to add a second this season. Moose Bringer, Ashton Tootle, and DaMyon McFarlin all made the podium and each has his sights set on winning an individual title in 2024. The key for the Mustangs are four State Qualifiers that return … Emilio Santana, Jacob Stellhorn, Eli Wood, and Gannon White … each won matches in Macon last year … if they can make the podium - South Effingham will be tough to beat. Daniel Galindez, CJ Lord, and Alaric Gibson also return and will be key to the Mustangs goal of defending their dual title and making a run at traditional. If South Effingham can get 11 (or 12) through to Macon - they will be tough to beat. Keep an eye on freshman Bear Bringer … he has a ton of experience and will be one of the several freshmen that could play an important role this season. - SEWrestle
