Pickens is always a fun team to watch. The Dragons come ready to compete and they will need that more than ever in 2021-2022 after graduating a significant number of starters last year. Gone are CJ Murphy, Andrew Burrell, Zak Price, and others … wrestlers that accounted for about half of their points at the 2021 State Tournament.
That doesn’t mean the Dragons won’t be competitive in 21-22 - they return 2021 State Placer Kaleb Nicholson to lead the way, but will need to look to some new faces to make an impact if the team is going to break into the top 15 in 2022. Dylan Gonzalez returns after a solid freshman campaign (3 wins at the State Tournament) and he should be hunting for a spot on the podium in 2022. Keep an eye on Chris Knight, Carson Cannon, Mason Powell, and Eli Rittenberry this season.
“We graduated seven starters last season, and only two upcoming seniors are currently on the roster. We will need a lot of new faces to step up to fill out the line-up. Thankfully, we have a young core headed by three returning state qualifiers. It will be interesting to see how our team adapts and grows over the course of the season.”
