Eastside (GA)

Coach Miller takes over and does so without 4 of 5 of their 2021 State Qualifiers. Hunter Fuqua, James Brundage, Kyan Bennett, and Cameron Fleming have graduated and that means Coach Miller will look to a new batch of Eagles to take over in 2021-2022. Chase Barney is the lone returning Qualifier and will be tasked with leading a young group into the season.

Coach Miller isn’t without some experienced wrestlers though … Grayson Poynter, Jordan Hittle, Tucker Edmondson, Wyatt King, and Dixon Carter have all competed - the question is whether they are ready to take that next step. Keep an eye on Wyatt Bauer, Tyelar Stephens, and Trevaun Waterman … each will look to make an impact in 2021-22. As Coach Miller says - this is a hungry, young crew - and that will be important as they battle in 5A.

We graduated several seniors last year but despite that, we haven’t really skipped a beat. We’re a scrappy, hungry, young crew with a never-say-die attitude, and there isn’t much you can ask for outside of that.

Fannin County (GA)

I will be the first to admit that when writing the Georgia 2A Fan’s Guide for the Traditional State Tournament a year ago - Fannin County wasn’t the team at the top of my list. I knew they had some outstanding individuals, but I wasn’t sure they could knock off the Dual State Champs (Oglethorpe County) or Dade County, Lovett, etc. Well that is why I shy away from predictions and why I talk so much about how winning a traditional title is different than winning a dual title.

The Rebels were simply outstanding in Macon and had individual after individual come through in a big way to lead them to the 2021 State Title. Kainan Henson, McCay Turner, and Kolton Stephens each played a big role in that team title and each has now graduated and moved on. The Rebels turn to some outstanding Juniors and an excellent Sophomore in 2021 106 lb. State Champ Blake Summers. Summers, Taylor Collis (State Placer at 138), Corbin Davenport (State Runer-up at 152), and Matthew Crowder (State Placer at 195) will lead the way in 2021-22. But just like a season ago - if Fannin is going to defend their title they will need more than the four mentioned above. Christen Newberry, Cooper Moreland, Dranke Cantrell, Colby Shaw, and Logan Long will play an important role in winning another title. Keep an eye on Carson Collis as well … he will look to make an impact in Macon in 2022.

With 10 returning starters we are very excited about the possibilities. If we can stay healthy I feel like we will be in the mix again at the end of the season.

Collins Hill (GA)

The rebuild at Collins Hill has begun and Coach Millhof has the Eagles ready to take off and challenge in Georgia 7A in 2021-2022. 2x State Champ Clint Gilbert is gone, but Millhof has a solid group of young talent ready to step up. State Placer Richard Ransom should lead the team in 2021-2022 and should be hunting for the top step on the podium in February.

State Qualifiers Michael Medrala, Jonathan Oviedo, and Jaylen George will look to take the next step and climb onto the podium in 2022. How high the Eagles climb might come down to the progression of Andrew Malooley, Nasir Korengay, and Avant Jackson as well as the next group that is coming through.

This year we are looking to keep moving forward. Taking over the first year of COVID was challenging but we managed and got through it. We had an awesome summer with guys really starting to buy-in and believe in themselves. We have all the athletic talent in the world, now it’s time to put it all together for a great season!
